Saw an article yesterday that said 75% of Californians can no longer afford a home. I get it in high COL areas but I'm looking at places where the median income is like 50k and the median home price is like 400k+ and it doesn't really add up, outside of the terrifying thought that only those that have homes to sell and the upper income levels will ever have home ownership as a reality.

This. My husband and I are minorities. No thanks. Especially as the red states are getting out of control with anti-abortion, anti-transgender laws, etc. We are fortunate enough to earn a good living where we can afford to live where we do and Im good with that.

As a person trying to look for a place with my wife and baby, it is pretty overwhelming. Is it different when we are trying to buy from homes being built in these newer subdivision? Like we dont have to compete as much as long as we have what they are asking for?
Luckiliy for us, waiting for a house to be built is an option since we can move with her parents for a year or 2 to wait for one to be built. Think thats the direction we are going because everything that gets listed online gets taken pretty quick

I've gotten offers between 300k and 420k for my house. It's literally the only thing of value to my name and I got it for a steal under circumstances that will never happen again but I don't want to live in Texas anymore. Getting a sweet enough offer is realistically my only way out and I just might take it if/when it comes, even though I don't like the implications of what that transaction is contributing to.

I've lived rural with remote work for a year and a half now since covid mercifully shut our office down and I don't think I'll be able to go back to a city. Like, farthest suburb outskirt at MOST.

Rural is the tits. It's cheap, beautiful, and most importantly, quiet.

I'll probably buy a house with NFTs and crypto some day.

The downsides to rural areas are no snow removal during storms. They don't plow until it's over. No trash service. You have to buy a permit from a dump and drive your own trash there if you can't burn it. Slower emergency responses. There's also a lot of thefts due to opiate addicts.

My inheritance is basically some land in the old family homestead, which is a rural area in Appalachia. No money or jewels or stocks, just some old family land, just a few acres with a creek.

When my parents pass on I plan on building a cabin there and living like a king. I'm very familiar with rural living. I have NO IDEA why people here are bashing it. It's quiet. No "MAGAs" yelling at you because you won't see them. They live a half mile down the road. Yes, you have to burn your trash probably, and mow you own grass and shovel your own snow. You'll probably want a truck because you'll need to haul trash you can't burn to the county landfill, which might be 20 miles away.

Sounds like paradise to me.

Holy Fuck. Also some of those purchases are for airbnb investments as well which lowers inventory of livable places and likely raising rents as well around them.

Cheap, my ass. Housing is more affordable, but almost everything else is more expensive.
