Credits are slow to earn but you can buy credits for as much as $20 for 2 million credits. One of the priciest cars in the game is 3.3 million credits.

That's not for a F2P game, that's for a $70 game.

That's a gray area, though. It's like saying every online game is subscription based because you have to pay for an internet connection. PS+ isn't a subscription fee for that game alone.

I dont know,,,dont find it particularly bad unless it grindy as hell to get the cars. Its only giving an option to those who dont want to waste time and unlock things now. Win for Sony and those with carefree wallets.

GT Sport cost less and has overall better experience

Actually, the most expensive car is $20 million. That's $200 in real money if you want to instantly buy it.

It is grindy and the new patch (assuming they don't undo it due to backlash) more than doubles the grind, by reducing the rewards for most of the races.

For example, there are several cars that cost $2 million or more. With the new reduced rewards, I'd have to do the same race for nearly 3 hours to earn 2 million. They're practically screaming at players to spend real money to skip the grind.

IIRC you also can't sell cars like you could in previous games

Oh wow, really? I have not played GT since the 4th one, but that is where you used to make a lot of you credits real easily. Winning a race that gave a good resell car multiple times to sell that prize car repeatedly.

I had a bad feeling they would do this...the race payouts when I got it at launch were pretty fair, could buy a new car after a handful of races. The fact you can't sell cars you don't want is shitty too.

That doesn't sound like that big of a deal honestly. 3 hours to earn an unlock? As someone who literally never buys these types of microtransactions that just sounds like playing the game to me

The credit amounts are insanely small, the game developer seems to imply things to change this are coming, but lol

Though the core game itself is fun, it's just annoying to not be able to buy every car as it comes to the used car dealership.

I'm just shocked they are still sticking to the format that you start in last place for every race. They couldn't even include qualifying?

If you pay $70 for a game then large portions of the content shouldn't be locked behind paywalls.

When an hour of grinding gets less tokens than what you could buy with an hour of minimum wage work, it's a pay wall. Any system where unlocks require tedious repetition instead of doing something meaningful in the gameplay is a shitty system and doesn't belong in a $70 game.

That could be a fair point, except Sony waited to nerf grinding until review scores were already out with the clear express intention of preventing the absurd monetization schemes in the game from affecting review scores in light of the $70 price tag.

Isn't this something MS started? I mean maybe not that egregious but micro transaction is micro transaction and Sony just took it further. EA also tried this with that NFS with cards thankfully there was a backlash. So thank MS for normalizing additional monetization in 1st party racers

I've played a ton of Forza 6 & 7 and never felt like I needed to buy any VC.

It's 20 mil. And it's for a 1929 Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer that is part of the legends shop. Which is a shop that changes it's stock on a regular basis.

It's not bad on it's own, but there are over 400 cars and 2 million isn't even the most expensive car (as seen above). I enjoy racing as much as the next guy, but there's only so much content before it gets really repetitive.

The concept of DLC isn't inherently bad. There's lots of good DLC. It's how it's implemented. In this case it's bad so should be criticized as such.

People also couldn't even play the game at all for almost an entire day due to the online being down.

That's not how these businesses work. They have data analysts crunching the numbers on progression specifically to maximize total revenue earned.

And the game was down for over 24 hours due to it being online only to access the single player content outside of arcade mode.

Yeah. As much as I've enjoyed a few pieces of story driven DLC over the years, I do miss the days when characters already had different costumes built into the game that you didn't have to pay extra to unlock-- which certain Japanese companies (Koei, Capcom) now charge ridiculous prices for.

I would not resist. Costly games for the poor.
