It's a massively cultural singing competition in Europe (with a few other countries) One of the the big things, aside football (soccer) that a large majority of Europe will watch.

Eurovision is the oldest and biggest music show in the world. It has aired annually since 1956 with the exception of 2020 (covid shut it down). Around 200 million people watch it. Each participting country sends an original song.

Russia has won it once (2008) and the winner host the next edition. Putin personally oversaw the 2009 edition and he consider it yet another way to win glory for the nation.

ABBA became pretty well known due to Eurovision. And there's no doubt that Beggin' from Maneskin being on US radio waves lately is because of them winning Eurovision this year. Celine Dion as well, was a Eurovision winner too.
