Explain?

Nostalgia is a specific feeling - a mournful feeling of not being able to go back to the way things were

But partaking in things you enjoyed in your past isn't that...

It depends really...although as much as I love resisting things from my past its a lot like seeing an old friend. But at the same time, you just gotta move on man. Experience new things! I try to enjoy something new everyday like a film I haven't seen before, or game, etc.

I mean, I love the magic rectangle in my pocket that gives me access to most of humanity's sum total knowledge. On the other hand, I'm glad my awkward teenage years aren't chronicled in full on the internet forever.

That being said, "the past" is big. I'd probably draw the line at pre-antibiotics, indoor plumbing, and electricity. I have no problem practicing "voluntary homelessness" when I go camping. But I like knowing I have a warm bed, a real toilet, and Advil to come home to. I'd love to see ancient times as a fly on the wall, but if we're going much further back than Shakespeare, I'm a modern, native English speaker and I'd barely be understood in Shakespeare's time, and if I pulled my zippo out to light a cigarette I'd end my day burnt as a witch if anyone saw what I was up to. I can't even imagine any ADOS wanting to go back in time further than 1968, despite having their own bathrooms to themselves.

I enjoy the nostalgic feelings thinking about the past, but recognize them for what they are, feelings of the past. It's fine to get lost in feelings of the past, but you can't get stuck there.

Hell, I'd never listen to Linkin Park again if that were the case. Their albums are the backing tracks to my teens. I can't hear them without dredging up some old memory.

Not as such. You can still want the past and do well in the present and perhaps the future.

I too enjoy nostalgic feelings of the past. For me nostalgia is looking back at happy moments from the past, and hopefully feeling appreciative of how they led to the way things are now.
But if perhaps those past feelings may not be happy, I might not describe that as a Nostalgia, but ruminating instead.

Well I wasn't looking back that far. I was thinking of the 90's. Cellphones were crap back then but we had the rest of the stuff.

I don't think there is anything wrong for being nostalgic for the past in general.

But the forms this nostalgia take are kinda cringe sometimes. People wishing they lived in the 50s because you can't wear a suit and tie on a date to a drive in theatre in 2022 is cringe as heck, for example.
