Every AC fan Ive talked to seems to understand why I gave up the series while playing 3 and tells me its the worst in the series.

Definitely heard the opposite myself. Especially with the remastering that there was a greater appreciation for 3 now and it jumped into the top three of The Desmond arc.

I actually came in to mention AC had consensus up until 4 (with Black Flag taking the spot right behind 2) but after that it got muddled

I'd agree with the consensus being 3 > Revelations > 1 though. There was mixed opinions on the story of 3 (particularly the modern story) but that's really what it was, mixed, with strong opinions both ways. Whereas Revelations was basically forgotten about for its weak tower defense system and forgettable story and 1 is by far the weakest in terms of gameplay and mission structure

2 is the only good game in that series, and the later games are generally considered somehow even gradually worse than 1.

2 being the only Lufia game that really matters is correct. 4 is supposedly pretty bad (I only played the first three) which I wouldn't say of 1 or 3. Not sure there is a consensus on 1/3/the 2 remake just because none of them besides 2 are that good but I personally would probably go 1 > 3, yeah.

Avengers is unfortunately not a consensus; I still see weirdos claim that Avengers 1 is the best, and I see others say that Endgame > Infinity War.

I feel like Uncharted comes closeish with 2 > 4 > 3 > 1

(dunno about Lost Legacy but I'm pretty sure Golden Abyss is considered the worst if you even count it so it still works maybe?)

I beat Ruins of Lore. It's mostly just kind of amateurish and not balanced very well. Like a lot of the magic spells you can get are useless since they have too high a cost yet do virtually no damage even as a mage class, but then Random Shot is pretty damn game breaking since it costs 0 mp but usually does as much or more than you could do with a regular attack (and since it isn't based on the attack stat you basically can ignore buying weapons or bother trying to use attack stat oriented classes)

Mostly you go through dungeons spamming Tear Gas to avoid encounters (which also costs 0 mp), then spamming Random Shot on bosses and healing as necessary.

There's also the bit where you have to go through a dungeon, fight a boss, then almost immediately go through the exact same dungeon and fight the exact same boss again (you have a brief stop at a town) without an opportunity to save.

Though I think the main issue people have with it is that it has a pretty lame cast of characters/kind of ugly graphics, and it's just a gaiden story that doesn't have anything to do with/advance the main plot of the Sinistrals.

Id say DMC1 vs. 5 is debatable, and there is no consensus on DmCs placement, Dark Fate can move anywhere below 1 on the Terminator ranking and quite a few people have Salvation at the bottom, Rambo 2 vs. 3 may be debatable, though Hunger Games is a really good shout.

Is DMC 5 really notably behind 3 in the fan consensus? I consider the two about equal and I imagine opinion hinges on which aspects you prefer.

I think for there to be a 'consensus' opinion, I'd say at least 70% of the fanbase has to agree, and I don't imagine DMC 3 vs 5 having those numbers among people who have played both.

it's got a good battle system but randomly generated dungeons for the entire game was a bad idea and additionally kills a lot of its Ancient Cave's value.
And while a GBC game probably wasn't going to have a great story anyways, I'm still amused at what they did here. The basic set-up comes off as one of the most no-effort retreads of prior series games I've ever seen in an RPG. Red-haired hero and blue-haired girl team up to fight the four Sinistrals? REALLY? GEE WHAT COULD THE PLOT TWIST POSSIBLY BE.

Those AC fans are usually just Ezio fans. 3 has the best mechanics and missions, last good AC before it became a grindfest.

I agree with this. On that note DMC1 vs DMC4 is likely a talking point too. DMC4 has better gameplay, DMC1 has better story and atmosphere for a lot of people (and more Dante!), so I wouldn't really call it clear cut.

The dune books by frank Herbert are probably pretty close if you ignore dune messiah, which is just such a different book that there isn't really a consensus on where it lands.

With messiah slotting in the 1, 2, 3, or 6th slot depending on who you ask. And it's such a different book that it's not going to get a consensus. It is a fabulous book, but it's almost a different genre from the rest of the series.

Thats not to say the above list is absolute, but it's pretty darn close. God emperor is probably the only other one that really moves much in personal lists (primarily swapping places with dune), but no one doesn't love the original, so there isn't going to be much of any complaints of putting it first.
