I mean, Riki is awesome. But I'm literally not getting the game unless there's a playable Nopon so...

I think we see 6 playable characters running around. So, I guess that does seem bad but it's not a guarantee. For what it is worth, the Nopon at 1:15 in the trailer looks like he might have a weapon.

XB2 is definitely a fun game despite the lame MC. Most of the rest of the cast is also pretty good (with a few exceptions; Im not really a fan of Pyra or Tora).

As for XB3 I wasn't paying a TON of attention to the trailer when it first aired because I was too busy reacting to the fact they the characters even looked decent, but I rewatched and have seen a ton of art hitting Twitter, and I think these are some of my favorite character designs in any RPG? It just fits my aesthetic so well.

I was mostly trying to say I bet way more people were turned off from the original XB1 than they were from XB2 in that regard. Most of the XB2 character designs look good to me other than whatever the name of that Yoshi one you mentioned is who looks like her spine caved in and 90% of her body weight is in her chest

Probably the worst game character ever? I can't think of a worse one off the top of my head. As questionable as Xenoblade 2 was with some of its choices at least it didn't have a Tatsu.

Xenoblade 1 on release wasn't even popular enough to have that sort of conversation. That's what happens when new IP is only available at GameStop for a limited time.

Given nintendo.com says "Six characters hailing from those nations will take part in a grand tale with life as its central theme." yeah I guess it's looking kinda bad for a Nopon

XBC1 character designs are good to middling, but mostly average.

XBC2 has some great designs, some bad ones. It's a little more over the place.

XBC2 has the better soundtrack.

2's environments look great from what I've seen but the characters put me off it an awful lot. It's not just the design either, the few cutscenes I've watched are simply... gross. I assume the ones I've seen are the absolute worst of it, and I know this discussion has been had many times and a bunch of people say it's worth pushing through the annoyances to enjoy a wonderful game, but it's difficult for me to want to pay full price for such a long video game when I may actively dislike the dialogue/characters >_>

More importantly, with all this Nopon talk it's worth giving a shout-out to Kino and Nene from Future Connected, who are both pretty great. And the Ponspectors of course!

huh? nopons were just chillin on all the titans in xc2, there was no special nopon colony. so i wouldnt say so

Argentum was sort of the Nopon nation.

The bigger issue is that if there really are exactly 6 playable characters, we've seen all 6 in the trailer and none of them are a Nopon. Xenoblade has a history of hiding playable characters so there might be more than 6. But, 6 is already quite a few playable characters so they might not.

You will not dislike the fourth party member.

I feel confident in that. Can't promise the second or fifth. Not going to guess on how you'll feel about the third.

I was pretty much heartbroken playing XBC2 during chapter 2 - how could they screw up Xenoblade so badly! So I get it when people give up on the game, don't give it a chance, or end up not really liking it even when they play the whole thing.
chapter 1 - fine
2 - awful
3 - so good
4 - mixed bag of great and not so good stuff
after that I think the game keeps getting better, with a few snags

If you want a good Xenoblade experience, XBC2 does sorta make you suffer through some stuff, but it's there. And like most any RPG, if the systems (skills, levels, items, etc) don't click for you, you will just not care for it. I liked 90% of the blade management, but sure, if I unlocked a skill and then found out I had to backtrack to kill 5 monsters that I had just got done killing dozens of, "ugh". There's another game design decision using blades that is pretty bad.

Sometimes I think XBC2 is a 7/10 game and I'm being generous and an apologist, sometimes I think it's a 9.5/10 game.

also XBC1 music is my favorite of the two, but, they are both A+

There are just enough games out there I'm not suffering through 6/10 content to play one of hundreds of 9/10 games

Even as a hater I will say the party members outside of the initial 3 in XB2 do slap. Although outside of Morag that comes with some reservations! (Chapter 3) I am still salty they kill off Vandheim immediately to raise the stakes, which I guess shows it's effective at doing so but feels cheap. It's a lame version of a narrative move done better elsewhere, even in its own series! As for the other one, I can see that character being polarizing but it was my kind of stupid in a game already full of dumb stuff.
By the time I quit I was starting to come around on Nia as well, but it took forever.

Honestly my biggest complaint about Xenoblade is that it REALLY does not respect the player's time in ways that go above and beyond even for a JRPG, and while XB1 was worth the investment I just could not suffer though all the junk XCX and XB2 want you to put up with.

I WANT to get excited for XB3 but I'm a cranky old man who even has trouble finishing JRPGs that I love, and I just can't trust this series. It sucks!

I only watched the trailer for XC3 once but didn't they have 4 people in the party running around? 6 feels like a small number of playable characters If they upped the battles from 3 to 4 characters.
