Florida, by far. Lived there for a while, was probably the best place I'd lived, although the alternatives include NY, CT, Canada, etc, (and a few places like England I wasn't there very long) which I wouldn't recommend to anybody.

streamofthesky posted...

SYG exists throughout much of the country, which makes it silly to highlight it. More importantly, whether somebody claims or even wins SYG makes you no more or less dead.

California: earthquakes and wildfires. Florida: hurricanes and tornadoes. Hurricane Irma was a cat. 1 hurricane when it suddenly changed course and passed right over me. Aside from plant debris all over the neighborhood and a few downed trees, everything was fine for the most part. Some businesses had damaged signs. Just live somewhere away from the bulk of hurricane strikes and if it's only category 1, prep and hunker down.

large earthquakes are very rare, and they are finally going to start doing controlled burns again, which will reduce the size/number/danger of wildfires.

hurricanes happen so much they have their own season

ngl, I've lived in both states for several years and California heat (hell, Arizona heat) is much better than Florida heat. There's a reason the southwest US is my favorite part of this country (largely climate and geography). What gets me is people always look at raw temperatures and say how awful the western deserts must be. Like, I've been on hikes in California and Arizona when the temperatures were 120 and 113, respectively, and while unpleasant when that high, Florida's still worse.

Nope. You could be in Northern Virginia and the summers are still awful. Best to stick to the arid West.

Granted, the natural disasters in Florida are probably worse, but the vast majority of people living here aren't screwed over by hurricanes. It's just another one of the gambles in life to take.

Florida, California, or NY, basically... although just tiny parts of each state.

Then again, people are less likely to wax romantic about 2020s America than any number of more interesting time periods.
