Probably not that much though because you still get the set 12.55k deduction.

Not sure when the PUA Unded (sept 1st?) but it was at least 4 months before the end of the year which means only 8 months max of UE to pay taxes on. If you didn't work the other months and had no other source of income you would need to have gotten over 2k a month in UE to really have to pay anything and even then it would only be a bit.

But, if you were one of those people getting like 4k a month on UE for 8 months...just look at it like this, your just being "taxed" 10% of that (over 12.5k). and still basically come out WAY ahead this year from the government.

4k*8months is 32k you got. - 12k = 20k you get taxed only 10% on, so you give back 2k of that and are still 30k richer over all.

I wish I got that.

of course, you could always start a church - then not only are you tax exempt but you don't even have to report your income

This, pretty much. Income is income.

afaik, food stamps aren't classified as income. They're a benefit.

Disability isn't at least.

That I find surprising.

Not really how it works. People who get paid by the church are still supposed to report income. Basically, you're describing doing things illegally, which is always an option.

Despite the name, they're very different programs -- and that difference is one gives you cash, the other gives you credit (which some recipients will illegally cash out, at a fraction of the value). If the money associated with a benefit never touches your hands, it's not taxable.
