Regular season, yea it doesn't matter much. Postseason where teams are generally good, coin toss decides games.

Give both teams possession. If there's a TD on the first teams possession, the second team gets the same amount of game clock time to match them. If they score faster they win, if they don't they lose.

Still sucky but I'd prefer it to what we have now.

There's also generally more energy expended in playoff games so defenses tend to be gassed at that point.

2v2 Smash match, 3 stock per player; each team gets to choose one player for their team and one for the opponent. Visiting team gets the choice between stage or three items of their choosing to be enabled. Home team gets the one not chosen. Any bonus stock (i.e. Defined as [Team Stock] - 1) remaining on the winning team at the end of the match translates to 5 yards of field position per stock on the opening kickoff.

Winner gets the standard choice as if they won the coin toss at the beginning of the game. All other current playoff OT rules apply.

Which Smash game are we playing? You'll have people complaining that it'd be more fair to play Melee than Ultimate.

Just do a shortened quarter with no sudden death like 10 minutes or something. If it's still tied then do another 10 minute sudden death.

Yeah it's more football for the players who are already tired but it's not much more than a regular sudden death would be.

Speaking of Brady, entering yesterday, he had been 49-1 against teams that committed at least four turnovers.

Also Josh Allen was 9-0 calling coin tosses before yesterday.

Also with Brady losing it continues the unbeaten streak where the season's passing yardage leader has never won the Super Bowl

AFC is unbelievably loaded with good young QBs. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Herbert... unreal.

Brady is like 19 in robot years

I still have faith that Kyler will eventually be a HoFer. These are two quarterbacks' stats in the playoffs, averaged per game over their first 3 years:

QB1: 17/35, 186 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 11 points on offense
QB2: 19/34, 137 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 11 points on offense

One of these is Kyler Murray, and the other is Peyton Manning, who is QB1.

Give him a few more years, preferably at least one under not-Kingsbury and I bet we see him come into his own.

It's unclear but several networks are interested in him

New Orleans' salary cap situation heading into next year is a complete disaster and they're probably headed for a rebuild, so my guess is that Payton doesn't really want to stick around for a few lean years.

Isn't NO's salary cap situation always a complete disaster? They led the league in dead money for years iirc

They always seem to find a way around it, yeah, but I think the Covid year messing up the cap growth is catching up to them now.

Okay seriously, I know the playoff game was awful and he looked awful, but one game does not a QB make. They went 11-6, and his yardage, completion percentage, QBR were all good. If you don't think he's a HoF in the making that's one thing, but not even a "Good" QB? Come on now.

Well, if he's as laid back when it comes to game preparation as he claims, he might be a good QB, but they'll never win a title with him like that. Playoffs are a totally different animal, and the Rams exposed that for him.

Which is why sometimes I wonder at what point he's just going to quit to play baseball. But hopefully he learned his lesson from that.

Apparently ESPN is suggesting the Cowboys fire McCarthy for Payton.

Uhh... if Payton is stepping away from the Saints, chances are near-zero that he'll want to coach a different team, especially so expediently.

I feel like the Cowboys tried to lure Payton away to coach at one point

Regardless of what you think of Payton, he's a clear upgrade over McCarthy

As someone who watched McCarthy screw up so many things in Green Bay, I feel like a sock would be a clear upgrade.

My argument was that luring Payton into another coaching job right away sounds like a pipe dream.

nah I highly doubt he coaches anywhere next season

but the season after that? who knows

He's still under contract with the Saints till 2024 I think so wouldn't any team wanting to hire Payton have to compensate New Orleans?
