She was found guilty of manslaughter... which is accidental killing. Immediately after the shooting she collapses on the ground and starts wailing about how it was an accident and how her life is over. You'd have to be a genuine moron to think she purposely murdered the guy.

I dont think it was on purpose but her demeanor and overall incompetence showed an extreme lack of care for anyone. I do think she felt bad for killing him but I think the majority of her tears are for herself and her inevitable prison sentence. It was the first thing she said as she was panicking after the shooting. Its all she really focused on.

That video clearly showed manslaughter. Her 'mistake' killed a man.

It doesn't matter if the man was a terrible person. You can't screw up that bad and face no consequences.

You dont have to "plan" out using lethal force against someone you may have an unreasonable standard of being a threat...that's kinda what we are talking about when it comes to racial bias and how dangerous it can be when it infects law enforcement. We are right to wonder if she makes the same "mistake" if he looked more like her.

My position is racial bias potentially causing someone to instinctively use lethal force against a percieved threat is an angle that has curiously been left unexplored because the "accident" angle was just accepted without scrutiny.

You're thirsty for me to label her a murderer. Why that is, I'm not sure.

She grabbed the taser, which she explained to the jury had a completely different feel and mechanism when removing, held it up in her hands for a few seconds, then fired. She had plenty of time to realize she had a real fuckin gun in her hand. If the situation is so stressful that all of that was ignored you shouldnt be a cop at all.

Its a sad reality that the usual suspects refuse to acknowledge in these situations. People of color arent given the benefit of the doubt or seen as innocent non-threats always. I agree she shouldn't be an officer and it's a really bad mistake to make. But after watching the video again, I think it was genuinely a mistake and I'm just not sure about the charges. The suspect was moving around, she was probably looking at him instead of what she had in front of her. It really did all happen so quickly.

I can't necessarily be up in arms about the verdict because the jury had all the evidence and came to their conclusion. But I also know the suspect shouldn't have been fighting them in the first place.

You get labeled as a racist if you say this publicly. Because self entitled individuals are the majority of todays population, therefore they become the loudest voice. Demonize a police officer who made a horrible error, and completely ignore the criminal who disobeyed orders and tried escaping because he did not want a ticket. The sad truth is, he wouldn't be dead if he didn't try escaping. But society keeps teaching these kids that The police officers are wrong, when in reality the actions of these kids are wrong too. But only one is demonized. Thats why I stopped listening to the whole demonizing police movements that the US vocal majority have been pushing.

If he took his tickets like a man, he wouldn't be dead. But he made horrible choices to fight/escape Police and those actions had consequences. As they usually do in all of these encounters where death happens. They're not ready for that conversation. When I get pulled over by cops, I'm pissed because now I have to pay a ticket. But you should see how I turn into a "yes sir no sir" military acknowledgement, because I just want to give them what they want and I want to go home. Can everyone else start doing the same? For fucks sake, I'm tired of these topics.

Racial bias can certainly exist. But I don't know if I would say her level of stress was due to his race once he put the officers in the position of having to fight someone who is now resisting arrest and trying to flee.

Are you suggesting a white person resisting arrest, tugging away from officers and trying to flee would have put them more at ease? The officers wouldn't have fought back and tried to continue with their arrest?

Resisting arrest never ends well for anyone, unless that person happens to have actually escaped never to be found again. I can't think of a scenario where I would forcibly resist arrest, knowing full well there are several officers involved.

I agree. Almost always scenarios such as these are because people forcibly resisted arrest and created a hostile environment. When the police make a decision to arrest someone and put the cuffs on them, that's the end of the story. They're going to jail. There's no negotiating after that, they've made their decision and if someone tries to fight them, bad things are probably going to happen. I never understood the whole, "That person could have been me". I always want to reply, "Do you plan on resisting arrest, too?"

The police do not have the authority to execute someone for resisting arrest.

That young white girl and boy resisted arrest by having a shootout with police, as did Nicolas Cruz, and were not shot, much less killed.
