Every driver does a self check list before leaving. They routinely do it alone. Much like how Uhaul has customers sign off on the damage to the truck before they take it out. Once you sign off, the liability is yours.

YEah, look up the Ghimli Glider incident. Captain didn't properly verify fuel load, ran out of fuel, and despite performing a landing that was impossible for everyone that did it in simulation, was fired for his fuck up.

Sure, most of them may even stick with that. But the guys working for Schneider, Swift, and other companies will get a choice of "go where we say you're going, or we'll get someone who will."
