If they choose to carry this on for a long time they can simply divert around Colorado. It will add time to their routes but so what? The state meanwhile will eventually run out of damn near everything, including food on grocery store's shelves because damn near everything in this country is shipped via truck, so if it ain't coming in from local sources it ain't coming in.

no trucks breaks would properly work at 85 MPH. Figure out how much the truck weighed and then you can calculate how long the braking distance would be for a truck traveling 140 kmh.

While his company is at fault for numerous things the drivers negligence and lack of common sense are what ultimately caused the accident. So while 110 years is excessive he should be put away for quite a while still.

Even if he had been speeding or whatever this sentence is absurd. Never heard of a life sentence for manslaughter, and this doesnt even sound like that.

There would need to be a state legislature action to expunge the conviction. Shouldn't be too hard seeing how unpopular this is.

Sounds like he didn't do a single thing wrong. Wasn't speeding, distracted, under influence, etc. So he shouldn't be charged at all.

He missed the runaway ramp but I've been getting conflicting information about how.

If he chose to ignore it then there's an argument for charges and conviction but a fraction of what he actually got.

is it even the judge's fault? sounds like the law on the books had his hands tied. this is much more an issue of the state's legislature and governor who could just pardon the guy.

Wolf Creek Pass is an absolutely beautiful drive and also fairly horrifying.

A lot of it is yes. I went from Durango to Silver Springs, Colorado Springs too and it's gorgeous. The scariest drive I've ever had tho, locals go so fast around the mountain turns it's crazy

Where 80% of people live is not pretty (Denver), just the same as any Midwest city. But the rest of the state looks just like that pic over and over and over

Ah, Colorado has mandatory consecutive sentences.

On its face, negligent homicide barely gets you a fraction of that. That is pretty outrageous sentencing, it's so draconian.

Those people think that judges can simply wave their hands and ignore the law, or create new ones on the fly. They don't understand the basics of how the legal system works, nor do they try to. They just want to bitch and remain ignorant.

It's possible he was so focused on controlling the truck that he didn't notice the off-ramp, or mistook it for a regular off-ramp.

Yes this is why I'm curious what the actual ultimate goal of these protests is and why I think the "If it happened to him it can happen to you" line of thinking is actually pretty fucked up.

Like if the brakes really did go out due to faulty maintenance that's one thing (and I'm surprised there's evidently been no actual confirmation or denial of that yet), but this guy made a cascading series of bad decisions beyond that.

10 to 15, probably, but I'm not a judge so my opinion on the subject is worthless.

But considering how the actual fucking judge agrees with me on the sentence being unjust you might want to consider it.
