Sitting back and watching is horrible though. It allows the evil to continue growing unchecked. Everyone needs to step up and complain more about the crimes the republican party is committing. Stop the "moderates" and "fence sitters" from voting republican. Not sure how they even think it is a good idea to vote for the party that is literally destroying democracy.

It seems like it's reached a point where some Republicans need to be proscecuted and locked up. I don't think many Democrats (or non-Republican in general) are willing to go that far. Worse, I don't think Republicans would allow it to happen even if it was warranted.

There's an ongoing investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection. Witnesses are still actively being called, and those refusing to testify have so far faced punishment for their lack of cooperation. It's all playing out slowly, but the wheels of justice are nonetheless still in motion.

A good number of those who trespassed, assaulted police and vandalized the capitol have been rounded up and are facing their own trials, with some already being sentenced.

There's accountability. It's just not the extent of accountability that TC and others would like. Will Daddy Trump ultimately be held responsible? I'm hopeful that the Jan. 6 committee will eventually arrived at that outcome, but I'm willing to give these investigations more time to conclude.

With Democrats, every part of this process has to be in such a neat and orderly fashion, and strictly by the book. I suppose Biden wants his administration to project the image that Democrats are the real party of law and order, unlike the unruly Republicans who have bent and broken previously established rules to get their way - and failing that, arranged an outright coup. If Democrats tried to rally their voters toward similar action, then the whole country would lose faith in the establishment and the rule of law.

I was listening to NPR a few days ago and they were discussing an article saying Trump's next coup already started and nobody is doing anything. Republicans are taking away power to certify elections from non-partisan groups and people that have always certified elections and handed it to state legislature. It's mostly been in states that Biden won like Georgia and Arizona that refused to cave to Trump trying to declare election fraud and certified Biden's win in those states. Like the guy Trump called in Georgia to find the votes for him has no power in regards to certifying elections because he was voted off the committee by state legislature or something of that sort and it's been handed to state Republicans instead.

They mentioned US democracy is effectively dead since Biden and Democrats aren't doing anything to protect the sanctity of elections.

No one in washington cares because theyre literally all republicans. Half of them claim otherwise, but theyre lying.

It feels like every time they have power they waste all their time talking about needing to reach across the aisle and droning on and on about bipartisanship and working together. Makes me want to fucking puke. They knowingly waste their time in power so they can get nothing done because most of them just don't give a shit about accomplishing anything. Democrats are not going by the book, they are slow rolling this. Dodge a subpoena? A regular person wouldn't get what 20 days? Before police kick down their door and forcibly arrest them. They wouldnt get to talk to reporters, they would be in jail. The investigation, why is it behind closed doors? Have it open, that way republicans can't make shit up about it.

The big lie? Democrats need to talk more about it, do what the republicans are doing and go on air talking about it. Show literal facts such as almost all the tiny fraud committed was by Republicans. Stop Republicans from white washing things.

Look at the voter suppression laws being passed in swing states that literally let the Republicans subvert the will of the voters and select whoever they want to win. Or the gerrymandering that's taking place everywhere.

Sorry if I'm slow to reply. I'm a bit under the weather and can't focus long enough to pick apart quotes and reply to everything said.

The point is that the American public needs to have some continued faith in the establishment and the rule of law and order. Yes, Democrats are being slow as molasses when it comes to these investigations and holding everyone accountable, but as I'm sure you already know, their hands are tied behind their backs by conditions largely beyond their control - namely that our government isn't just one ruling party that dictates everything. Different parties across different houses have to be in agreement for certain things to happen, and the president has only so much executive power that can extend only so far.

As far as these investigations are concerned, things are moving about as swiftly as they can given the current balance of power. If democracy had already failed us, we wouldn't even be here discussing it. There would be no investigations, no accountability whatsoever.

My present concern is that, if people fear-monger too much, then we all end up losing faith in the rule of law and everything goes out of the door. Are you wanting on a liberal version of Jan. 6 to happen? Are you guys proposing that all non-Republicans should band together and violently overthrow the government? What's the end game here?

It's better to leave the current establishment in place and let this pan out on its own. Revolutions rarely end well for anybody because we always underestimate the human propensity toward corruption. When common citizens seize power, they behave exactly the same way as the oppressive dictators they've overthrown*. Democracy works as a buffer to prevent that scenario from happening because no single person or party can seize absolute control.
