I don't have a strong opinion this, but I want to see some opinions

"To prevent hospital overcrowding" is the usual answer

I dunno, I don't stop driving because some people won't wear their seatbelt. And with entire regions being against vaccinations I find it hard to believe I can affect hospital overcrowding

I haven't been wearing one lately

Wearing your mask is to help stop the spread. Vaccination is not a guaranteed end to COVID, it's one of a few things that helps to stop the spread.

It does help to prevent breakthrough infection, or then transmitting that infection to others. Vaccines don't form some kind of barrier around your body that prevents you from taking in viral particles, they just tell your system how to make antibodies that will destroy the infection when it starts. Masking does keep some of the viral particles from getting into your system in the first place, and also prevents some from leaving your body so you're less likely to infect another person.

Anti vaxxers and anti maskers are two sides of the same turd.

Anyway, helps stop the spread of COVID, like if you have it and have no symptoms. I need to get my booster, but am waiting for this head cold to go away. Out in public, I will still mask up.

this shit isn't just for you. wear the damn mask for the same reasons you drive carefully or choose not to fire a gun into a crowd.

We wear a mask because you can still catch and spread COVID no matter how many times you get the vaccine

this. the vaccine + booster significantly reduce the chance you'll catch a bad case of covid, but they don't prevent you from catching, carrying and spreading it if you have it.

the idea of the mask is to keep your germs to yourself just in case you're carrying the virus and don't know it.

if you're selfish don't wear a mask

if you care about others (esp the unvaccinated) keep wearing one

1. Your analogy fails because it would be like you not wearing a seatbelt because others are not wearing a seatbelt.

2. The seatbelt thing always fails as an analogy because we are talking about a communicable disease.

3. You "find it hard to believe" that you make a difference, but you do. All you're doing is just adding more fuel to the fire. That makes things worse. The more people like you who choose to not wear masks, the longer we are in this.

4. You can still catch and infect others even when vaccinated. Again, making the problem worse. You can significantly reduce the chance of spread by getting vaccinated and wearing a mask, social distancing, washing your hands, not going out unnecessarily, etc...

What makes you think other people being stupid and reckless means you should pile on with more of it?

Because you can still get and spread the virus, a mask helps prevent that.

Maybe. At that point, I would like to see data on the chance of viral mutation and how it compares to other viruses, such as flu.

for a little extra time, probably. we also need to make sure that it doesn't evolve to dodge the vaccines.

One reason is that you can still get COVID, even if the risk is reduced. But another one is that during the cold and flu season, using a mask can help you prevent other diseases.

By that logic, couldn't you just not get vaxxed and keep wearing a mask?

I'm fully vaccinated and never wear a mask unless forced (although I had to anyway for most of the year)

If people refuse to get vaccinated that's their problem.

I think I'll wear a mask anytime I'm sick or in a healthcare setting for the rest of my life because of this.

I've been telling people IRL that one of the best things to come out of this pandemic is the idea of normalizing mask wearing if you're feeling sick.
