I always chuckle seeing Ryu near the bottom of the average save list surrounded by dead characters

B-but I had so many more pointless titles to give him...

K. Rool is, by far, my favorite Smash Bros character. Just something about his combination of subverting heavyweight traits with cheeky options whilst still falling to their weaknesses, repping his boss battles perfectly by having such a strong, linear offensive but an obvious exploitable weakness wherever his gut isn't facing (or exploiting it), and the ability to go stupidly deep to go for spikes with a predictable but highly useful recovery meld into such a fun character to play. I don't think any character is quite as fun to swap between playing seriously, screwing around, going for disrespect, or laming it out, and his expression work and animations are all so vibrant and playful, menacing and buffoonish. I'm not a big fan of Ultimate's systems, feel like SO much of it resolves around the recovery/edgeguard game, but I have never had a K Rool game where I've had a bad time.

And more than that, the story of the character - being one that was never even considered until the Smash Ballot and a surprise to the dev team that he was so beloved - is so strong to me. After years of the DKC series being turned on and called "never really that good" post-Rareware buyout, after the DK series itself being really underwhelmingly represented in Smash through 4, after the internal desire for Nintendo to distance themselves from most of Rare's creations out of respect for the original devs (except Paon, they just did whatever the Hell they wanted), seeing K. Rool play so well and be represented so RIGHT was just so, so cool.

I love this stupid character and I'm just glad he finished in the top half of the field. Because he is just dumb fat crocodile with armor. But that's better than the rest of the cast by me.

Time to save Snake and Banjo I guess lol.

Ultimate characters aren't doing so hot recently! Three of the past four eliminations were from that game! However, that's to be expected given that at one point, Ultimate composed a huge portion of what was left of all the characters. With K. Rool being eliminated, there are now more base game Echo Fighters than there are base game regular fighters! Also, much to my displeasure, "Donkey Kong" becomes the first series from SSB64 that has been fully eliminated! Diddy Kong was the first character eliminated from the nearly diminished Brawl roster, but Donkey Kong and King K. Rool did not go down without a fight as they both managed to crack the top half! Also King K. Rool is the superior King as he outlasted King Dedede by 38 days!

One more round and then the characters will require three saves to be safe! Be sure to not miss it!

At this point I have no idea who's going to win this thing with usually-popular characters dropping early, along with big names like Link

but that does mean something weird like an Ice Climbers win could be possible and I'd be all for that
