Genuinely surprised shes who you went for considering some of the things youve posted here.

I am curious, why is that? Don't be afraid to be upfront, I am not a leftist, I won't be offended as long as you make an intelligent point instead of going the usual, "BIGOT! NAZI! MISOGYNIST! RAWR! DRUMPF! *Mouth foam*"

This is intriguing me. Go more into details, please. And no, I am not belittling you, I am genuinely curious, what about Meru I would not like, and what other girl you'd think I'd like and why?

It can be helpful depending on how much you have done. Like giving you food in the morning sometimes. Watering crops if you dont have enough sprinklers, or feeding animals before you have the feeders. So, normally earlier in the game. Also, you get a starfuit thing that raises you max energy from them. Personally, I avoid romances normally if I cant date who I want. But I could in this game. Plus, you have to get everyones friendship up with them to get certain recipes and whatnot. And theyll even send you items in the mail Plus, I like to see all the stories I can

imo in basically all farmin games, romancing is probably a net loss
rune factory 4 might be an exception because of how busted u can make ur spouse/children (cuz of that one accessory) but still

all the time/thought investment that giving them gifts entails, of which u get zero return on until u get full return on

for reference: rf4 spouse/children are literally best in slot for party members because of how good they are with the accessory. u can break the game to be trivial in other ways tho.... but still

The problem for me is that I never bother gifting/talking to people early because I'm too busy maximizing profits on the farm early on, while simultaneously trying to go deep enough in the mine to get gold/minecarts working, and collecting wood to build multiple sheds on my property.

So I'm usually not getting married any time before summer/fall of the second year (if not later), and by then the things they do for you (watering crops, feeding animals) are almost entirely pointless.

The love interests don't actually do that, though. It's mainly the non-love interest NPCs that send you gifts and recipes, mostly as motivation to level up their affection as well as the people you want to romance.

Romance is its own reward.

Time. And whatever value you lose from the gifts you give them, assuming you're giving gifts and not just talking to them every day.

Though even that can be offset at bit, since if you're smart at the Luau you'll be gaining affection from everyone in town, and doing odd jobs (from the notice board outside of Pierre's) will also usually give you affection as well (and they're worth doing because it can be a quick and easy way to get extra cash, especially early on). I've often found certain characters (like Pam or Linus) leveling up in affection without me making any real effort to befriend them just as a side-effect of doing jobs.

Plus, once you start getting the friendship events you'll gain even more affection if you pick the right dialogue options, so you can sort of start to snowball with people even without meaning to.

Some pro give you stuff. Like getting stuff in the mail. Or recipes from them. And depending on the character, it may not cost you much, if anything. Like how some people like things you forage for. Not to mention gold items on a birthday will skyrocket the points. And story, of course. But thats for people who like the little scenes

Yeah. That was my reborn the second time I played. I was trying to do a ton of things at once. So I started planning things for certain days based on luck and weather (and when crops would be ready) Though while its true that by that time, you usually have the auto feeders and sprinklers, you could still be missing enough stuff that could make them useful. On my second playthrough, I realized I found much less iridium ore

Hmmm I guess I never noticed who sent stuff. I did know Emily kept sending random stuff that was useful, though, since it was stuff I didnt have much of

The Luau is where I get a ton of points. Though, it almost screwed me on my most recent play through. I was below the max hearts for dating the all And the Luau made it so I had a ton of final dates to do in one day. But I planned a schedule out and went on like a bunch is one day It was a little hectic And depending on when it is, I did do a round of talking to almost everybody (if not everybody) on many of the earlier days. And gave a few gift (usually gold) on birthday to really jump the hearts And the dialogue choices can really help if you pick the right ones. Which are easier after playing once, or when getting to know the characters

Why would you min-max in a farming game though? the game is for casual enjoyment, calling romances a waste is stupid considering it's just there for you to have fun with.

This game has far more to it than just farming. It's an indie Rune Factory.

Even if you're giving them foraged materials, it still costs you what you could have made by selling them. Of course, foraged materials generally aren't worth all that much (with the exception of berry seasons with boosted berry prices, but that's more a matter of volume and the individual berries still aren't all that valuable), but ultimately, gifts are never truly free.

I guess not free, then. But pretty cheap for any items Especially since you can just find them in places

I usually wait until I've got a few Crystalariums running and just start getting piles and piles of diamond. Then I wander through town giving them out to everyone I meet until everyone is maxed.

It usually means I'm not making friends until late into year 2, but once I start it goes relatively quickly (because everyone either likes or loves diamonds). And it's not a huge financial loss because by that point I'm probably making wines and selling them for tons, so I'm making at least a million a season.

My first year usually consists of trying to amass a ton of money (mainly via potatoes > strawberries > blueberries > cranberries) and getting to the bottom of the mine. After which I start working on farm buildings and animals. After that, I finally start worrying about talking to people in town and starting romances. I also try to get as many bundles done as quickly and as early as I can (to unlock the minecarts, greenhouse, and quarry if nothing else).

The only townfolk I tend to cultivate early on are Marnie (so I can get into her room for the one quest) and Caroline (so I can get tea leaves). Though I try to do every odd job other than the fishing ones (or ones that would be too hard/take too much time at my current level of advancement), so that tends to earn affection as well.

I do try to go to the Luau (in the first year the best outcome is to try and save a gold Cauliflower from spring, or if you can't manage one a gold Potato, and then after that I mostly just stick to aged cheese), but I skip the Flower Dance first year because I know no one's going to dance with me (and I won't be able to afford the Rarecrow).

I remember I was able to get Shane once. I forgot what I gave him, but I think it may have been on a birthday. But yeah. I do try to get the gold cauliflower for the first Luau. And same with cheese, as I have a ton of it. Haha.
