Looks like the idea is to make the screen push as close to the edge of the lid as possible. When I was really young I had a hand-me-down Apple IIe from my cousin, and I used to use Macs in high school (mainly for graphic design and desktop publishing in my Graphic Arts classes, as well as using HyperCard for a couple school projects and for writing papers). But I haven't used a single one of their products for the last 25 years. I've never been willing to use iTunes, for multiple reasons. When I wanted an MP3 player, I went out of my way to buy a generic one because I didn't want an iPod. I wouldn't use an iPhone if you gave me one for free. Generally speaking, whenever Apple chooses to do something different from everyone else, either in terms of physical design or in how they handle software, their way is fucking atrocious. They are almost never the best option for anything, and then they overcharge for their product as well. They've basically coasted for decades on really good marketing, combined with presenting themselves as the tech company for people who don't actually understand tech.
