The reason is that there is no need to know that. If something happens the Hospital will know it anyways. I myself know it because I got a Dog Tag when I went to the army that has that info and still have it. I am not an American by they way.

It doesn't come up often, and it's not recommended that I donate blood bc sometimes I'm anemic and also because all my blood is for me [cardiac concerns!]. Thanks.
