School? Work? At home? Did you hear it as it happened?

I was at middle school and they didn't tell us anything! >_> I didn't find out until I got home in the afternoon. We had a moment of silence the next day, but the teachers didn't say a peep during the day

In the school library (on a computer). I think I overheard people saying something big had happened, so I looked up BBC News and read about it pretty much as it was happening.

We're 5 hours ahead here in the UK, so it would have been around 1pm.

When I woke up, vaguely remember my dad watching the news and they were recapping as to what happened that early morning.

High school. The attacks happened during 2nd period (orchestra/classical guitar) and I watched the towers fall during 3rd period (Spanish IV). We stayed in school but didn't really "have class" for the rest of the day.

I was in middle school, eating breakfast and saw it on the news. My mother was unconvinced at first thinking it was like war of the worlds, as there was more than a few things in media about the destruction of the twin towers in particular. Then when the video went to it after the second plane, she said we'd be fine since we're across the country. Then she made my older sibling and I go to the bus stop. We lived on a military base, all the gates were closed and like, hardcore not letting people through without a super thorough check of everyone and everything going in plus the vechicles. We waited like 40 minutes past when it normally arrives and went home but got yelled at to go back and wait. 2 hours later we went with to the house of a friend who'd been waiting with us. Fast forward to like an hour later and my mom apparently had freaked out when we couldn't be found and somehow realized we were at a friend's place just across the park or something. Not too sure, it was so long ago my memory is hazy on a lot of things from that far back.

We didn't get grounded or anything except for getting yelled at, I believe.

So yeah. We mostly just waited a few hours for a school bus that sure as hell was never going to come that day.

I was waiting for my 10:00 college class to start when another student was telling the class. I didn't really believe it. Then the professors came in and the class became a grim and heartful discussion.

I called my parents and learned that my aunt-in-law (now late) had a close call.

My mood remained one of denial until I went to the dining area and ate greasy pizza, when an office woman passed out papers on the tables saying that live news was on in the upstairs public room. Since then I have usually tried to repeat that event by eating pizza as an observance.

The class happened, Japanese. My teacher, a Japanese national finishing her grad degree overseas here, just had no clue as to what to say.

I once got in trouble cause I told my teacher I didn't know about 9/11. This was a few years after the fact and it was actually the truth but she didn't believe me and I had to write an essay about 9/11 which retroactively taught me about 9/11.

I was in 8th grade "technology" class (it was more like learning how to use saws and measurement tools, name didn't really make sense). After that was history and the teacher had the TV on for us, showed us the footage and talked about it saying we would remember it for the rest of our lives. He said he thought it was Bin Laden. History and English were in the same classroom and both teachers worked together (our books usually tied into what we were learning in history) so we continued to discuss it and watch for the next period as well.

I think we were the only class in the school that knew about it. I remember telling my math teacher about it later on. And then talking about it on the bus on the way home.

I was at school in 8th grade, we just got in from recess and were told about the attacks by the teacher. She wheeled a tv into the classroom and we spent most of the day watching live coverage while she taught the class. At the time we started watching the first tower had collapsed but the second one was still standing and we saw it collapse live. I remember seeing the videos constantly being replayed of people covered in blood and dust running away from the area. It was very surreal and I remember it all vividly to this day.

I was 10 years old in elementary school. Our teacher gathered us all together and explained what happened. I still remember her showing a picture of the world trade center (none of us knew what it was), and one kid said "well, that is what it used to look like". We got sent home early that day.

I got sent to my room that night because I told me mom I was having fun watching the news that night. But I was 10 years old, I treated it like I was watching a crime show, didn't understand the significance of it at the time.

I've probably posted this every year I've been here and then some, but...

I was in 8th grade English. We were all still getting situated when the teacher put her hands over her mouth while looking at her computer, then ran out of the room. We all sat there speculating until someone on the PA told us to get ready to leave because many of our parents would most likely be picking us up shortly. My dad got there like a minute later and told me what happened. We went home and watched everything unfold for a few hours, then I walked to a nearby park with a view of the Manhattan skyline and couldn't see it because of the dust cloud. Later in the evening I played Code: Veronica and finally beat the Tyrant boss fight on the plane that I had been stuck on for a long time, so I'll always have this weird tie-in with 9/11 and Code: Veronica.

I was 12 years old at the time and woke up to my mom and sister watching the news and without any context or information yet my first word was Cool! when I saw the sight of the first tower after it had been hit; in my mind it looked like something out of a movie and it took a minute to register that it was in fact a real life situation, at which point my mood drastically changed.

I was a junior in college. Was woken up by a call from my mom saying we were under attack. Turned on the TV not know what to expect, and saw the two towers with smoke pouring out of them.

All of my classes were cancelled except one - that professor wanted us to come in and share the feelings we had with each other. I was pissed about that I wanted to stay planted in front of the TV and continue watching.

Me and my roommate basically watched TV from the time we woke up until like 2am (except for my one class), when we realized that no new info was going to come to light. Most surreal day of my life.
