Poll of the Day > Which FPS should I play first?

Didn't know where else I could ask such a broad question and still get enough responses (twitter? reddit?). This is not "which game is best", I will play them all eventually. If it's not on the poll, I don't have it (this isn't about buying new games). And yes, I know MP3 is a technically "first person adventure", that's not the point.

loved bl2. played about half the campaign before it came out. beat all 3 difficulties with my siren, the first two with a couple of characters, and normal mode with everyone but krieg (came out far later, and was a bit tired of the game by then)

All of these games I have played for a few hours, then kinda forgot about them for years. I have 3.5 hours on the original bioshock, but I haven't tried Remastered even though Steam gave it to me for free.

I guess I should have clarified it's Bioshock Remastered, and the original Wii version of MP3. Dead Space is just the regular game, and BL2 is without DLC.

Also, for what it matters, I also own Bioshock 2 Remastered and Dead Space 2, but I want to beat them in release order, even if the plot isn't necessary (and I don't own the original Borderlands or the Pre-Sequel)

MP3 doesn't add too much new to the formula and neither does Borderlands 2... they're both good, but they're sequels so there's a lot of overlap in design.

Dead Space 1 and Bioshock 1 are both worth a solid play, and Dead Space 2 is a near-perfect sequel... ... not as good as a game, but a better sequel (if that makes any sense)

So I'd go with either Dead Space or Bioshock

Yeah but in metroid prime's case, that's not necessarily a bad thing, and in BL2's case, I don't have BL1 so it's new to me.

Wash it all down with some Einhander for PS1...which isn't a FPS at all...but it IS amazing.

GreenKnight is right. Go play Resistance right now. Find it however you can. Amazon, whatever. It's one of the most unique and satisfying fps games.

Why the fuck people do this? If they didn't list the game, they either don't have it, the means to play it, or isn't interested. God, people like that are some of the most annoying people out there.

Another (not-first-person) shooter I forgot to add to the list was MGSV: The Phantom Pain. That said, I already started Bioshock. I'll probably do BL2 after that, but I still want to beat MP3 before MP4 comes out (which, apparently, won't be for a long time)

Black Mesa/Half-Life 1

I might just have to play metroid prime 3 anyway because my pc is deciding to be unusually crashy this week, and bioshock has an autosave that only happens on loading areas, rendering it useless. I know I can manual save, but it still interrupts the game and I forget, I probably lost 30 minutes last time. Why can't they just autosave after every little sister you rescue/harvest or new weapon you pick up at least?

MP2 maybe didn't do much new over MP1 except have some much larger areas. but MP3 did quite a lot more I thought. for one thing, there are other people including other bounty hunters that you fight alongside, it plays a lot differently with the wii-mote, there are "action scenes" where large scale things happen with you still in control (can't remember exactly but it was fairly impressive I thought). I don't know if I can say it's a great game or not, but it specific DID do a lot more bew things than MP2 did. (although now that I think of it, MP2 did that whole shadow-realm thing didn't it... maybe that's what you mean).

and BL2 vs BL1 is almost not a comparison. BL2 is such a massive improvement over BL1 it's not even funny. BL1 has maybe better gun mechanics and feel and balance, but otherwise BL2 is a *phenomenally* better game in so many ways.

I replayed 1 recently, its not WAY different. Its just a nice step-up. The gameplay is still pretty much exactly the same. There is good reason when it came out people called it Borderlands 1.5. Its not bad thing though, its just the more of the same but improved...which is really all you could ask out of a sequel.

I only bought BL2 because it sounded popular and there was a steam sale, but it sounds like playing bl1 afterwards would be frustrating, and I don't really feel like diving into the whole franchise.

I think that's part of how I view games - game feel and balance are more important to me than other factors which is why while I like BL2, I still play BL1 more.

And MP3 does have some cool stuff like the electrical puzzles and the marines at the end

BL1 has very good gunplay and fun RPG mechanics in a surprisingly dull world filled with dull WoW-style quests and almost no story with almost interesting characters that barely speak. near the end of the game it starts to get a lot less dull, but then the game ends. (the DLCs are supposed to be good but I never played them. the game already suffers a lot from over-levelling, DLCs would make it worse unless they're meant to be post-game or something.)

BL2 has good but flawed gunplay and fun RPG mechanics with a bigger way more interesting world with hugely more enemy and environment and gun variety, characters that speak, a much more balanced feel from beginning to end, and an actually interesting story that makes you want to play the game.

Incidentally, today is MGSV's 6th anniversary.

Anyway I've been playing bioshock, and last night I reached Arcadia (I forgot if I made it to the farmer's market or not), but there was a huge No Man's Sky update today, so I'm tempted to play that even though the next Expedition doesn't start for a while yet.
