Some people are there protesting, but it's sad how many people are cheering on this cruelty with no intention of fixing it.

Nope. All it does is disrupt and scattered them, raising tensions but not actually doing anything to fix the actual issues. Unless we're going to house them, we can't punish them being homeless.

From a "let's make our living space pleasant to visit and look at", this is a good move.

If they didn't make any plans around finding these people somewhere to live, then it's pretty shitty and shows no compassion for those less fortunate.

tbqh, the entire reason our homeless problem is so bad is more conservative areas basically ignore the constitution and regularly attack them, so they flee for more liberal cities, and now the liberal cities are being overwhelmed because other cities can't fix their shit. We ought to start charging, tbqh.

Thing is, this has been explored before, and it's shown time and time again that, given proper support, the VAST majority of homeless get off assistance within two years, and only a tiny percentage don't take help.

Sure, but even California could be doing more. We have the houses to house them, unfortunately they get bought up by big companies and foreign investors to try and rent out, but end up being left vacant.

I'm guessing the people defending these camps have never actually been close to one. I haven't been to Portland in a while but all the homeless camps in Seattle are rampant with drug use and crime. The one next to the court house was so bad that city started instructing people to enter through a tiny side door instead of the big main entrance because people were getting attacked almost daily.

Here in Phoenix the homeless are getting aggressive and brazen as fuck. I wont be surprised if similar things start happening here.

Google says Portland has 12 homeless shelters and are planning on building at least 6 more by the end of the year.

Are all the shelters full, or is this a case of homeless people not wanting to stay in shelters? It's the former, displacing their camps seems misguided. If it's the latter, it seems completely justified.
