Do you think unemployment needs to end now?

A Nebraska Burger King has gone viral after the staff put up a sign reading "We All Quit. Sorry for your inconvenience"

Employees at Lincoln franchise said it's been understaffed for months while they worked in a kitchen with no A/C even as temps go as high as 90F

Ex-General Manager, Rachael Flores said employees pulled the plug after she put in her 2 weeks notice and then 8 others followed

She said "They wanted to put up a sign to say, you know, sorry there's really not goign to be anyone here. Just kind of laugh at upper management"

They joked on July 9th to put up the sign telling customers the store wasn't open cause they all quit and they did it

She said "I didn't think anyone was going to notice it, because we just did one sign. I got a call from upper management, and they told me i needed to take it down"

But she said she couldn't take it down cause they were short staffed at which point they told her to leave.

But she said working conditions drove all of them away as she too was hospitalized for dehydration but her boss said she's just making excuses

But they've gone through a lot of turnover since working there last year as they were forced to run breakfast with just 2 people on staff and 3 in the lunch rush

Burger King told Dailymail that the work experience described here doesn't go in line with their brand values and is looking to ensure this doesn't happen again

Her best friend, Kylee Johnson started working there in January because she knew they needed help and was goign to quit when more people showed up but never happened

Kylee wrote "When your GM puts in her 2 weeks and the 8 other employees including yourself put in their 2 weeks laughig emoji. I'm so f****** proud of my best friend for all her hard work and being an incredible manager. Anywho, BK will learn how to treat their employees before they completely shut down"

The LA times said the national unemployment was 5.9% but those who received Unemployment durign the pandemic have a financial cushion to search for a better paying job rather than settle for a minimum wage job causing other chains like Chipotle to raise the wage to $15 followed by McDonalds, Southwest Airlins, Walmart and Costco

Unemployment benefits pay more than most minimum wage jobs and due to continue until September as part of Biden's 1.9 trillion dollar pandemic relief package

But Job Creators Network, Alfredo Ortiz said while unemployment benefits were helpful during the pandemic for laid off workers, now these people are being paid more to sit on the couch than get to work creating an unbelievable labour shortage and said "The Democrats should realize times ahve changed and reduce unemployment benefits accordingly"

Conservative critics have been blasting these benefits claiming people who earned less than 32,000 a year were better off on EI when they were the ones doing the labour jobs now without staff

Do you think unemployment benefits need to end?

Understaffing is worker abuse. Let the whole thing disappear. They take in SO much profit that its not even funny, yet they force three people to handle a lunch rush. Imagine being forced to take orders at the window and the lobby at the same time. With the rising population, the rush literally never stops.

You should literally be able to sue for the understaffing. PTSD from getting screamed at by customers every five seconds because of the wait times.

Time for the news to demonize them as lazy good for nothing failures afraid of a little hard work and effort to make an already very generous amount of money for the work they are asked to do.

The media is a bunch of six-figure salary elites. They dont get whats going on. All they see is longer wait times and higher prices. They dont understand that the understaffing isnt because people arent showing up; its corporate not allowing the GM to fully staff the store because they get away with writing fewer paychecks. Thats just so abusive to the workers. You either get your hours cut or you get forced to do three times the work for minimum wage (which is roughly 1/3 what it needs to be to cover life $32/hr).

Workers: "We quit because the work is miserable and we're paid poverty wages"

Conservatives: "These people wouldn't dare act so entitled if fucking Biden made sure unemployment was far more miserable. Someone needs to get in that kitchen and run themselves ragged while my fat ass yells at them for taking too long to cook my Whopper."

We physician residents can't sue for understaffing.

Exactly. It has jack shit to do with unemployment payments. Customers are constantly sharing hot takes about how things are getting worse in our store because no one wants to work. We all know that's bullshit.

It's ridiculous how much the media and every random jackass will talk about things that they know next to nothing about. It's infuriating to hear outside people tell you how your work, your interests, your hobbies really are.

You dont get unemployment for voluntarily quitting your job and based on their working conditions I would have quit as well.

So true. I feel like the media is VERY slowly waking up to this, but they dont want to admit it because they prefer the everyones lazy line of BS.

Like post #10 said, they arent on unemployment. That lasted for about 2-3 months for fast food workers because the second you can apply for another fast food job (theyll hire you) you get your unemployment cut off. Accepting unemployment isnt a job and most people who arent working are not getting benefits. If you take it, you are instantly forced to start applying to anywhere and everywhere. You can just apply to NASA and the CIA because you know they wont hire you they will make you apply for food and retail work who WILL hire you.

Nonsense. They don't check. All you have to do is say you applied and you get unemployment for however long your state gives it.

I've been listening to a podcast from around 2010/11, and it's been pretty eye-opening in how the liberal-to-the-point-of-annoying host has been taking Obama to task. His point is that despite his great promises of change, Obama ultimately maintained and furthered the framework that Bush's government laid down, and he continued to act as an extension of those policies without the backlash that the Bush/Cheney government would have faced.

The world we live in is one where Republicans burn down the fucking country, and then their Democrat forebearers coast along in the wake of their hubris, changing very little and making as few waves as possible, essentially making their terms Business As Usual for the regimes they replaced.

All of that to say - this has roots going back to Bush, Trump's swamp-ass regime made it even worse, and Obama and Biden are fucking cowards for not taking more radical action in undoing the harm of their predecessors and are responsible for the state of things to some degree.

To say that Biden is responsible for this is only as true as his lack of action to rectify it - there's blame, but there's a greater root of the cause that should be recognised ahead of it. That cause, imo, is Bush - the president who A) had close ties to Enron, a company which fucked the global economy in the ass, and B) was the president under who the GFC happened which has shaped the world we live in, again tying into Enron's fraud - whose influence was barely tapered by Obama, whose policies were then actively dismantled with prejudice by the Trump administration, which the Biden administration are not fixing. There's a chain of responsibility here.

Lip service. Theyre not going to do jack shit because every Burger King is the exact same. They realized that a skeleton crew is cheaper for them, so theyre never going to fix it. Its absolute abuse when you consider the crowds in a meal-time rush.

Has anyone else noticed how much advertising they do? They easily advertise more than any other fast food place, but they refuse to pay two more minimum wage paychecks to make sure the workers arent overwhelmed. I support anyone who quits this shit job. Quit mid shift, too.
