This is the same thing that happen with the Finn and Poe, and Bucky and Steve. Anytime there are good guy friends. People want them fucking. And it is like this is literally the height of toxic masculinity.

Oddly, it feels like it's a reaction to toxic masculinity. Since a lot of toxic masculinity encompasses hyper-masculinity, not showing emotions, being a dick, etc. It feels like taking two characters that are otherwise straight and having them be gay is some kind of win for these people because "well they're gay now, no toxic masculinity"

It doesn't make a lot of sense but that's what it feels like

Compare his reaction to Oscar Isaac's and John Boyega's over Poe/Finn and Mackie just comes off insecure as hell over a fucking superhero show.

I refer to my aforementioned "waterfall punching". If someone wants to have fantasies and fun with the characters, that's perfectly valid. It gets into bad territory if people are saying "you SHOULD have made them gay" for whatever reason.

And I do get what he's saying about how we're in a weird place where the idea of men being close is such a foreign concept, because we're in a confusing time where gay people are trying to be valid, but also straight people want to have valid straight relationships, too.

He portrayed a sexuality-curious, maybe bi definitely questioning guy in that one episode of Black Mirror and it was a good episode. But people dont talk much about that performance even though it was really good. Also, Ludi Lin was in that episode.

I never understood the draw in shipping fictional characters. I was a big weeb in my early teen years and that shit kinda turned me away from the community at large, and anime itself, but it's just bleeding everywhere now.

Characters can't be rivals any more, they secretly want to fuck. Nor can they be friends. Or sit near each other. Or look at each other at one point in time. Or be involved in a comedy skit. It's really just... annoying.

Worst part is if an interaction goes wrong between a popular ship it's literally all you're going to hear about. You can't even discuss the episode without their constant "OH NOOOOO" or "They still gonna fuck tho" in every conversation, even not related to them.

Shippers frequently make me not want to associate with certain anime communites.

Yeah, that's bugged me for years. Not just shipping, but shit in general. When Harry Met Sally came out, it showed us that guys and girls can't just be friends, devaluing intergender friendship. Now even same-gender friendships have aspersions cast upon them.
