Still unsure if I loved or hated the game and yes, entirely because of the story.

I liked the game. Wasn't as good as the first one, but that was a really high bar. I liked the first one a lot because it was a relatively simple story that was just very well executed. TLOU2 had an issue where it just tried to do a lot more, which I appreciated, but the execution wasn't as tight.

Yeah I agree. It was more ambitious than 1 story-wise and a great deal of it worked, some of it didn't.

Still an outstanding game, great attention to detail, with performances/dialogue a cut above 90% of what's out there, really enjoyable gameplay. Possibly a shade long but there's precious few times where it really felt its length to me. The score was also not as good as the first game.

I'd put it slightly below 1 - slightly. But I love both and it's very, very close. I'd be hyped for a third to round out the story if they wanted to do one.

Very good game, wouldve been Naughty Dogs best story if not for the unnecessary final chapter (Santa Barbara) that frustrates the games own message. It does pull off its core conceit excellently it just shouldve known when to end.

As an overall package I think one is still better.

However, narrative and story issues aside(which don't bother me as much as some others) the gameplay in 2 while not reinventing the wheel, is so much more refined in 2 it's hard to go back to the original without noticing. 2 also has an insane amount of accessibility changes which is hard to ignore.

Game also runs 3-5 hours too long for it's own good.

Both are great, and should be played.

GOTY for me, and one of my favourite games in awhile, but at the same time not something that I'm ready to dive back into with how heavy it is.

Really good, second part ran a bit long but the end segment was the best in the series.

Great gameplay loop but the story regularly trips over its themes and how they relate to the actual gameplay (versus how they're presented in cutscenes and scripted moments) in a way that really took me out of it.

Easily game of the year, and honestly one of the best I've played. Like it a good bit more than one, both in terms of gameplay and story. Side characters were more memorable, as were set pieces, and graphically it's one of the most impressive games I've ever seen. The little touches absolutely sell it, with basic enemies treating each other like real people with identities

I had a lot of fun playing through it, the gameplay was almost perfect, although the melee combat felt extremely outdated and sucked, which surprised me considering how good everything else was in that ballpark. The presentation and storytelling abilities were very impressive, it's insane how advanced that felt.

Unfortunately, the story they tried to tell was not good at all though and most characters were not either. A lot of the scenes are so well made that it's possible to ignore, but makes me think how well Naughty Dog could tell a good story now. On top of being an unoriginal story that could not be stretched for that long to begin with, it was not told very well either. A good part of the flashback scenes were good, but tied into present time pretty badly.

Overall, certainly worth playing for its good attributes in gameplay and presentation, at least until it probably becomes more of a norm than currently.

I loved it. It's one of the best stories in gaming, almost unrivaled in presentation, direction, composition, voice acting/dialogue, characters, animation, and detail. The gameplay is tense & scary when it needs to be (including one of the scariest & disgusting sections in a horror game ever - The Rat King), fluid and hard-hitting, with satisfying stealth and multi-tiered level design allowing for multiple ways to approach a situation. The ending doesn't bother me much anymore, though it did at the time. They definitely knew what they were doing with it and I just have to respect that ultimately.
