i dunno. i thought it was just another cookie cutter open world game with the gimmick of enemies have weapon weaknesses, but even then, best way to kill everything just boils down to pretend you're playing Assassin's Creed.

Imo, while the combat was fun, the story and characters were not engaging at all. I couldnt finish the game.

Yup. I bought both Horizon and Ghost based on their good reputation, but they both have the same tired ubisoft openworld design.

Horizon is the better of the two though.

It's pretty much Assassin's creed but she can't climb for shit. That and underwater exploration is all that set it apart.

I liked it overall though.

This may sound weird but in my mind its the actual Final Fantasy game of the PS4 era.

I delivered on every level and I still remember the big story elements of it. It was just an awesome RPG adventure.

The world and combat were great, but Aloy's personality was pretty bland and the dialogue often wasn't very enjoyable. Didn't play that arctic DLC, though, so I dunno if that fixed or improved anything.

Yep. It's fun. If you like open world games check it out. If you like the thought of fighting robot dinosaurs and finding out how robot dinosaurs were a thing check it out.

I generally don't finish these types of games, but I 100%'d HZD, had a real good time with it.

It wasn't real obvious to me. I thought Elizabet was Aloy's actual mother through most of it.

It's VERY like Ghost of Tsushima (or I suppose the other way round, whatever), but the dinosaurs-as-machines concept is pretty fucking neat and fun to play. It's a bit like monster hunter that way.

See, that was the exact one I thought was obvious. She lived a thousand years ago and Aloy looks identical to her, a clone makes more sense than anything else.

One thing I will say is that the backstory of the old ones was way more interesting than what was actually happening in the current time.

I was thinking Elizabet was in cryosleep or something and would eventually show up. That's what the game led us to believe anyway.

I have it on PC, it's a very pretty game to be sure. I like how varied the mobs are, fighting giant robot dinosaurs is always fun. My only critique of the game is combat management of resources. For example, if you are fighting a robot that likes to use fire attacks you have to press Z or X repeatedly to cycle through your resist potions, then you have to cycle back to your healing potions afterwards, all while the enemy is attacking you. Quickslots is what this game really needs.

Pretty much this for me as well. I really tried to like Aloy but IMO she almost seems devoid of personality. Great game to look at though, graphics are top notch.

I had a lot of fun with the base game but after finishing the story and starting the DLC area, I just couldn't get into it anymore. Guess my enjoyment just depended on the mystery of the world's backstory... Haven't really looked too much into the new game but if it's focused more on the tribal warfare stuff idk if I want to play it.

If HZD is one of the best PS4 era titles, then I'm glad I did not sink money into a PS4. At least the PS3 had more interesting games.

Yes, it definitely is.

I loved it. When it comes to open world games, the environment (aka the actual open world) is one of the most important factors to me, and the amount of detail put into the setting in HZD really set it apart. Plus fighting robot T-Rexes.

FWIW, the DLC does extend beyond tribal stuff.
