Only halfway through but holy shit the image of 3,000 black schoolchildren marching through a destroyed Confederate POW camp singing John Browns Body is fucking badass.

Many places claim the first Memorial Day. The first recorded Memorial Day involved the narrative provided by LTC Kempter.

https://time.com/5836444/black-memorial-day/

People in the South literally whitewashed the first event. There are other sources on this.

What history is there for North Korea to clean up? They were the ones whose entire infrastructure was bombed to dust and ashes by the American military.

This assumption is not historically accurate. ->

From Wikipedia
The wiki you link says that the events of the 1st Memorial Day did not necessarily lead to the creation of the day becoming a national holiday. That doesn't mean what you think it does.

Many holidays exist that are not national holidays.

Interestingly that plays into what he was saying. Not many Americans know just how badly the U.S. bombed North Korea. 1.5 million deaths (15% of the population), 85% of buildings in the entire country destroyed. It certainly wasnt something I was taught about at all in school.

The post above yours points out that you cant say this was the first. Blight (the books author) even admitted that there was no definitive evidence to call this the first.
What part of "African Americans invented Memorial Day" in that post is unclear?

Blight is saying he cannot link that fact with the formal declaration of a U.S. legal holiday. Two different things.

Dude, youre taking this one amazing thing that happened and shoehorning it into your own narrative. Blight even says theres no evidence it was the first. The fact is that grave decorations had been going on for thousands of years and this wasnt even the first Decoration day for Civil War soldiers.

That's simply not true.

Read what Blight said in the article I posted. Tell me who is shoehorning.

It is not historically accurate to say freed slaves created Memorial Day. Bright admitted this himself. History glossed over this part of early confederate grave decorations. But it is not correct to say that history buried the fact that black people created Memorial Day.
Blight, in the wiki article you linked said "African Americans created Memorial Day". You're blatantly trying to twist that inconvenient truth. His only reservation was that the U.S. made it a national holiday because of them.

Read what he said. Listen to LTC Kemter's speech.

We're done here.
