Many places claim the first Memorial Day. The first recorded Memorial Day involved the narrative provided by LTC Kempter.

The wiki you link says that the events of the 1st Memorial Day did not necessarily lead to the creation of the day becoming a national holiday. That doesn't mean what you think it does.

Many holidays exist that are not national holidays.

Interestingly that plays into what he was saying. Not many Americans know just how badly the U.S. bombed North Korea. 1.5 million deaths (15% of the population), 85% of buildings in the entire country destroyed. It certainly wasnt something I was taught about at all in school.

What part of "African Americans invented Memorial Day" in that post is unclear?

Blight is saying he cannot link that fact with the formal declaration of a U.S. legal holiday. Two different things.

Dude, youre taking this one amazing thing that happened and shoehorning it into your own narrative. Blight even says theres no evidence it was the first. The fact is that grave decorations had been going on for thousands of years and this wasnt even the first Decoration day for Civil War soldiers.

Blight, in the wiki article you linked said "African Americans created Memorial Day". You're blatantly trying to twist that inconvenient truth. His only reservation was that the U.S. made it a national holiday because of them.
