Why shouldn't they be allowed to work from home? Last year proved it was possible. Commutes are hell, cubicle farms are demoralizing, corporate office culture is rife with abuse and toxicity, and -oh yeah: COVID is STILL a thing. Bravo to the workers for setting boundaries. - LeftistGodzilla

Seems a lot more fair and noble (or the very least less laughable) than occupy wall street a decade ago. If you can work from home why not. Especially for pointless office jobs that involve a lot of pencil pushing

Edit: Also I love the propaganda of the mother holding her adorable baby. I'm always in favor of stuff like that to manipulate us/pull our heartstrings/think with our emotions instead of logic.

If employers want their employees to commute then stop parking their officers and job sites in the middle of super expansive citys you arent paying them enough to afford to live within even 2 hours of.

I have had several employees balk at coming back because of their commute. Before working from home they were doing it and just got used to it over the years but being able to stay home made them realize how much it sucks now that they were asked to come back. One is going to retire early instead of continue doing it, another got a different job that wasn't working from an office, but most are just sucking it up.

I always laughed my ass off at those times my employer (which I'm quitting soon) promoted "Green and Clean" bullshit, while at the same time powering their huge ass building with fossil fuels while everyone WFH during COVID, only to now demand them all to return fully as they are "not a WFH employer anymore", thereby increasing both internal energy and carbon footprint costs lmfao.

Good on people not backing down.

How can any manager trust that you're actually working at home? I understand why people want a return to the office environment.

Federal-level Republicans tried to pass liability protection months ago for businesses that forced people back into the office, meaning that the companies would be absolutely absolved of the consequences of their actions. >:(

Most Republicans in the states are now working on similar. That's also part of the push to remove the extra unemployment benefits and return to the old system, so that when people refuse to go back to work in-person, their employer can say that the person refused available employment and therefore is ineligible for benefits.

If your job can be completed at home and you prove that you can get the same work accomplished at home as you do at the office then why wouldnt a company be happy about that, they could downsize their headquarters and save a bunch.

Retaining employees is cheaper than outsourcing. Not for every industry but for those jobs that can be done at home, absolutely. There are tax benefits to the business and they get some of that money back during the tax season.

Businesses dont really understand that though. The good ones do but they are rare. Usually businesses care about money now rather than more money long term. You see this with outsourced IT departments. The company always suffers because outsourced anything sucks 99% of the time, but in the extreme short term they saved money and the CEO can put that on their resume

We're supposed to be working from home 2-3 days a week and the rest in the office once we go back. I'm okay with that. Honestly the bigger thing that sucks about the return to normalcy isn't so much the day to day office grind (though that isn't great) but that all of these virtual events are going to start being in person now so I'll need to drive around the state again

My commute is only 20-30 minutes, so going to the office isnt a big hassle even though I prefer wfh. What is a big hassle is all of the office covid rules. All of the office shared services/areas (coffee, microwave, fridge, lunch area, etc) are off limits. Instead of making my own lunch Ill have to get take out every day. Masks are mandatory at all times (I dont have an issue with masks but all things being equal it is easier to not wear one at home than it is to wear one at the office). As of now we are just doing volunteers back in the office, but management plans on doing mandatory part time this summer. I suspect full time by end of the year.

For real. Having my alarm set for 15 minutes before I have to "be" at work is amazing. And being able to take care of random shit at home while I'm working, like doing dishes and laundry and stuff.

Hell, eventually I figure it'd be beneficial for the company as well, to downsize the building and save some money with a smaller footprint so they can give the C level execs more bonuses and shit, because you know if they save money they aint giving it to the working employees.

Was she going to try to work while taking care of the baby? My wife and I tried that for a month last year. It could maybe work if you're both part time, but if you're full time it's not possible.

yeah my office was like that at first. i said i wouldn't go to work if i didn't have coffee at the office. also used the fridge and microwave for my lunches. it's too expensive to not have these normal "luxuries" especially when the drive is 40 min one way.

my workplace is all vaccinated now so we don't bother with masks anymore, at least.
