This is the first time I can recall where there are already active Precure fighting the bad guys in episode 1 before the series even officially starts. Two of them, in fact! Hime (Cure Princess) is a clumsy failure of a Precure with severe confidence issues, and she gets bailed out by Iona (Cure Fortune), who's good at being a Precure but is also a complete fucking bitch who hates Hime's guts and considers her a liability. I've had this meme saved for a while and now I finally understand the context... https://i.imgur.com/gnIbWeR.png And to top it all off, Megumi is already a huge fangirl for the Precure before meeting Hime and getting to become Cure Lovely at the end of episode 1. Hime runs off because she's too scared and lacking confidence to fight again, which leads to... https://i.imgur.com/hVPdZzd.png ...a non-combat transformation? Another thing I've never seen in a Precure series before. She transforms into a detective and finds Hime easily, then gives her a pep talk before a second round against the bad guy. Oh yeah, there's mooks fighting alongside the monster of the week too. Heartcatch and Star Twinkle also had these, but it's another rare thing that most Precure series don't have. https://i.imgur.com/sSvCV2V.png Cure Princess finally gets her first win against a bad guy, a big confidence boost, and a loot drop. Looks like their power-ups come as PreCards (gee I wonder how many of those they suckered Japanese parents into buying for their children) and those are what allow for the alternate forms. I actually bought a riichi mahjong book to try to learn the game, so I can play the minigames in Yakuza etc. Haven't read it yet. Lol Yakuza was the "source" of my mahjong "experience." Fist manga is pretty good but drags towards the end, HnG handled the translation+scans well. Tsubomi starts the series as "the weakest Precure" but, at the end of the series, the final form of the Heartcatch team is the strongest that the Precure franchise has ever seen even to this day. I know Precure are generally good at kicking ass and looking good doing it, but Lovely seems like way more of a berserker compared to others I've seen.
