I plan on getting a foot long tuna sub with everything on it with oil and vinegar. It's been 2 years since I've had Subway.

Their doing great here. Also its privatized ownership so there's that

The first sentence tells a lot. They've oversaturated the market. That and unlike other fast food establishments they're not drive-thru ready for The Pandemic. The good thing about owning a Subway is they have very little overhead. They don't need a lot of cooking equipment or staff and the base ingredients are cheap. For this reason they were popular with immigrant franchise owners who instead of opening a costlier and risky restaurant serving ethnic food would instead run a Subway and make a comfortable living being sandwich artisans. But eventually all things come to an end.

Subway fucked up getting rid of the $5 footlong. Theyre just too expensive now.

Want a cheaper sub? Go to Jimmy Johns for a comparable taste. Want something better? Spend an extra dollar or two than subway and go to Firehouse or Jersey Mikes.

Theres just no need for subway anymore. I would still pick them over Quiznos but thats about it. Even the bakery at my grocery store sells subs at Subway prices with like four times the meat lmao

There are definitely better options in my area, but I'll still go once in a while since it's fast and convenient. I guess that's pretty much how I feel about any of the fast food places I go to.
I feel like the quality of fast food has kinda dropped across the board in the past 5 years or so. I'm hard pressed to think of any of them that I'd rate as an "A tier". Everything just feels passable or terrible.

Pretty much. All of the big name fast food joints have seem to have gotten worse.

Subway's whole thing was basically "healthy" fast food, in that it was better for you than the other fast food places. Only reason it really boomed(well, that and $5 for a 12 inch sandwich)

Nowadays they have nothing special. There's way better sub places out there, way better healthy fast food choices, and pretty much everything tastes better.

People only went to Subway for convenience. COVID made Subway's lack of a drive thru inconvenient. And if someone decided they are actually going to go into the place to pick up a sub, they might as well go to a sub place with quality.

I live two blocks away from a Subway and I have never visited it. I'll go to the Goodcents 2 miles away every time.

Very bland sandwiches. Low tier lunchmeat quality stuff. Used to be good way, way the hell back in the day but now I'd rather just get some premade from my grocery store.

Subway's results were such an outlier that the team decided to test them again, biopsying five new oven roasted chicken pieces, and five new orders of chicken strips.
Those results were averaged: the oven roasted chicken scored 53.6 per cent chicken DNA, and the chicken strips were found to have just 42.8 per cent chicken DNA. The majority of the remaining DNA? Soy.

It's the same basic problem McDonald's got into about five years ago: Barely-edible fast food is only tolerable when it's cheap, and nobody really goes to a fast-food place for the premium options.

The closest Subway to me is across the street from DiBellas, which is slightly more expensive but is actually really good. Theres also a Jersey Mikes up the street. I dont like them as much as DiBellas, but theyre absolutely way better than Subway.

Subway is low quality, but its not especially cheap nor is it something drunk/high people are going to keep afloat. They should be struggling!

I go the Subway probably once a week since it's close to my job, but I have other options as well.

For sandwich places, there were Jimmy John's, Which Wich, and Potbelly. Now, Jimmy John's seems to be closed half the time, Which Wich just suddenly disappeared before the pandemic hit (and their equipment and year+ old bagged snacks are still on the shelves), and Potbelly is no longer doing walk-in ordering, so that really only leaves Subway as a reliable option among sandwich shops.

Subway's big advantage over the other sub sandwich chains was that it was always a lot cheaper

now that it's hella expensive I'd rather just go to somewhere better like Blimpie or Quizno's
