I found it much harder than SMK64 as a child, but much easier as an adult (without abusing glitches and super shortcuts). I think SMK64 without mushrooms is generally better balanced, but DKR is generally a better gaming experience. Are there any modern cartoon-y racing games that are as complete a game as DKR?

I loved that level where you would fly around and get eggs for your nest. But the catch is that anyone could steal eggs from your nest so it was so much fun.

What strikes me now is that dkr is a full 3D game while mk64 used sprites.

I prefer mk64s odd approach for pure technical/historical reasons, but dkr was more fun

Diddy Kong Racing wears out its welcome. Mario Kart 64 does not.

The silver coin challenge turns a fun racing game into a tedious fetch quest and some of the boss races are laughable in how meticulously you have to play to win. If it weren't for that, I'd say it was the better game.

I never could beat Wizpig. I've tried many times as an adult too and never been able.

Me and my friends decided whoever got 3 eggs first lost so we would try to put eggs in each others nests and keep them out of our own. It was a lot of fun.

Diddy Kong Racing was way better than Mario Kart 64. Not to say Mario Kart 64 wasn't a ton of fun, but Diddy Kong Racing was just so much better.

Beating Wizpig was actually my New Year's Resolution.

I played ten hours of Diddy Kong Racing over a two-day period to get to Wizpig as soon as possible and avenge my losses from back in the day. I think what prevented me from defeating him in the hours I put into the race years before was not knowing the trick where you release the acceleration button just before hitting the zipper.

Even after I caught up to Wizpig, it still took me two hours to win the race.
The second race is less difficult, but that once also took me an hour.

Wizpig is to the N64 what Mike Tyson was to the NES.

Yep, but perhaps because of that, the multiplayer had several limitations imposed on it. Such as removing the background sky for a basic color, and removing course props like trees and bushes.

I'm trolling but I do think 64 was the weakest of the main series for it's time.

SNES was unrivaled
64 was debatably the 3rd best Kart Racer of it's time (behind DKR and CTR)
Double Dash was unrivaled
DS was unrivaled
Wii was unrivaled
7 was unrivaled
8 is unrivaled currently

Super Circuit is worse though if you count that
