There's no reason Tanden should be confirmed tbh. She has nothing in her history that makes her particularly qualified for the position, and she is very clearly an abusive boss and mean spirited person who is not a professional. She physically attacked Faiz Shakur, she outed an anonymous sexual assault victim, and she has criticized and had others fired for their own twitter behavior. Hopefully she doesn't get nominated, and honestly, it is kind of pathetic that Bernie is going to support her nomination.

Since he got stopped on just telling ICE to freeze all deportations he's since gone about issuing orders to rein ICE in but they've gone partially rogue in terms of actually obeying. Did he though? I don't think Biden ever promised to abolish ICE. He should have because it's the right thing to do but I'm pretty sure his promise was to stop the draconian policies Trump, Sessions, Miller, etc. put in and pursue immigration reform.
On literal Day 1 he issued an order to pause all deportations. Texas immediately sued to get that order thrown out and a federal judge did that. Since he apparently can't halt them that directly he instead started issuing orders to ICE to only focus on actual violent criminals. I'm not going to claim that more can't be done, I'm sure there's always more that can be done and it's fine and right to push for that to be done... but I really don't think this is Biden breaking a promise. He seems to be sticking to this one as best he can so far. His promise didn't go far enough IMO, but that's a separate issue. Like, he is fighting ICE here with his orders to redefine their scope and what they should be doing. There have been articles written from anonymous ICE officials who were "distraught" that his orders would "abolish ICE without abolishing ICE." I'm not trying to do any complicated gotcha here! I've read that his updated guidelines where he backtracked on this contain less restrictions on certain deportations that are entirely unrelated to the court battle, and certainly in that case he receives negative points. The argument goes that he lost one fight in court, and then in response has ceded even more power to ICE. As you note, he could be doing more. If ICE officials are sad about it then good, but I would need to know what specifically they are mad about since by all accounts Biden isn't meaningfully stopping them from doing their main job of detention and deportation. Edit: I guess really what I'm upset about is that we just got through 4 years of watching Trump obstruct, strongarm, and dismantle whatever federal agencies he want through executive action and firing people with zero consequence, but now that Biden is in we have to play by the rules when we have an actual justifiable reason to do these things.
