the gameplay is closer to FF9 than anything else, in fact it's basically FF9 gameplay with extra steps

the setting and story is meh, there's a bunch of short stories for you to read to get you into the mood of the protagonist but about half way through the 30 or so stories you basically realize they just recycle the stories and it boils down to "sob story please feel bad for this guy"

yea don't listen to the people that tell you it should have been FF13, those are the Sakaguchi fanboys that hated new Square

most of the backstory and character building for the protagonist is hidden in literal text files you need to read, and you need to follow a guide to trigger them otherwise you could miss a few

and the protagonist is wooden as fuck even if you read his short stories, don't buy the hype from these people hyping up Sakaguchi's 6th grade level storytelling

i guess then the main reason i would want an XSX is to play Ninja Gaiden Black and Black 2 to see what all the hype is about because i thought Sigma 1 and 2 were perfectly fine. but then i'd also run the risk of becoming one of those people that never shuts up about NGB and how much Sigma ruined everything and killed their pet dog.

I thought those Ninja Gaiden games came out for the PS3

there are other reasons to buy XSX though, like Gamepass Ultimate and Halo and then more Halo and Gears and maybe get a chance for Microsoft to sneak a 100% increase in the subscription price right before E3 this year

Its not fantastic or anything, just a fun RPG. 7/10 IMO.

Which makes it a masterpiece compared to FFXIII, but its difficult to make a game worse than FFXIII.

People have really strong opinions in here! I thought Lost Odyssey was decent myself, there's a bunch of very cliche anime tropes with the characters but some good stuff in there too. I for one really liked the short stories and thought they added a lot to the overall world building and characterisation, and made the game feel less like the standard JRPG it probably is. They're not exactly like datalogs either, they are dreams Kain (and sometimes someone else) has that are framed like actual short stories, much easier to read imo.

But then I don't hate FFXIII either so maybe it's just different tastes.

This game is extremely underrated

If you just want to play BC games then you can save a couple hundred dollars and buy a Series S. Granted, developers are hating it and calling it the bottleneck of this generation, but it does 360 games beautifully.

if you're getting an Xbox might as well get the best one, it's only a difference of $200 and the Series X will be the target system for the next 5 years at least
