i hear that the power companies have to put out extra energy at the end of every hour in the UK because everyone on the island gets up to start the kettle when a show ends.

The internet. I read that due to low voltage in American homes (110V on average) they're not popular and the kettles you put on the stovetop are more widely used. Australia has 220-240V to homes so everyone has an electric kettle

I have one. I also dated a girl who said it gives off bad energy. Little did she know the water energy experiment by Masaru Emoto has never been duplicated and debunked time and time again. It also makes no sense from an energy standpoint as matter can not be created or destroyed and energy simply transfers from one objet to another regardless of its source.

What experiment was that?

I know he said you could clean polluted water with positive thoughts and prayers.

I got one just last year, as I've been drinking more tea and making more French press coffee. Easier and more efficient than turning on a gas stove, I figure, and shuts itself off with a click instead of an annoying whistle when ready.

Welp, you cant always believe what you read on the internet.

In his case it's true. 10 amps at 220V (2200 watts) heats water twice as fast as 10 amps at 110V (1100 watts). At that point, you are better off with using a stovetop kettle which can put out far more heat than an electric kettle designed for 110V outlets (2000 watts 7000 BTUs, the average heat output of a stove burner give or take).

Pretty much this.
It would be redundant with three or four other things in my kitchen. I got an old "campfire" percolator somewhere, a Keurig that spits out hot water on demand, a plain old glass saucepan, and then a microwave.

I mean while I do own an electric kettle, it does heat up water slower than a stove kettle. I just like that it turns itself off.

You must have a weaker electric kettle. My fave part of mine is that it heats up quicker than any stove kettle
