For some reason I thought you had to beat Sephiroth on Very Hard to unlock him. Took me a few tries because I'm not used to the joycon button layout and wanted to beat him with Cloud, who I don't use.

Well that was fun.

Sakurai joked about locking him behind very hard with only a single try.

I never thought that the "if a character is an assist trophy, they can't be a DLC character" logic was sound

But Geno being a Mii Fighter as a DLC means RIP Geno for 100% as all the DLC characters were decided already
Well, MAYBE if there will be season 3 of the DLCs, but still very unlikely

Never cared for Geno though so I am glad he is out of the window

It's not that I don't like Geno as a character, it's just that I never undestood the answer to "why him"
When Smash had a rule for "Nintendo characters only" I kind sort of understand? I mean, there would be plenty of Pokemon that are better choices than Geno, for example

But nowadays there are characters from 3rd party companies and it seems like there is no limit. Still asking for Geno is kind of..a meme at this point? people that don't know when to move on? idk

You can pretty much ask for every character that originated in a video game (well, this is still a rule, right?) so why...Geno..I don't understand

I think Dante, Lloyd, and Ryu H will show up as Mii fighters.

And I am still hoping we see Professor Layton. Maybe he will also show up as a Mii Fighter

the only characters left I'd be super hyped for are fringe-at-best, either from games not likely to get a nod, or as like tertiary characters in their own series. Geno might not be my FIRST choice to get in, but he might have been my most likely. At least with the Genos and Waluigis of the world there are other folks with whom I can meme and commiserate.

Eh, one popular character that is always brought up as "characters that need to be in Smash" that I care about is GS Isaac

Not because I care about Isaac, but because Golden Sun deserves some love.
And I also kinda wish it would be accompanied with a new game...but so far, how many characters actually came with a new game or a port? people always speculate about "Ryu from Ninja Gaiden together with the trilogy on Switch!" but so far, how many of those happened? we still don't have Persona 5 and Joker was released a year and a half ago...
Sephiroth also doesn't come with FFVII Remake and Snake never came with the Metal Gear games, so it's kind of a weak point

That's what happens when he shows up somewhere that doesn't always have an isometric view. I remember when he showed up for the first time on those old VGCW streams and everyone immediately realized/remembered that he doesn't wear anything outside of a hat, robe and boots.

Huh. Even though I am a huge fan of the Layton games and his character and this is the first I have ever heard of this. Since Nintendo published all of the Layton games, I had never even considered that Level 5 owns the rights to him....

I looked it up and sure enough - not only does it look like Level 5 still owns the rights to Professor Layton, but it looks like their North American division is basically shut down and they are unlikely to be releasing any more games in the U.S.

Way to crush my hopes and dreams, TRE

So... Anyone actually played Sephy yet? What do they think? I beat him on normal super easily so I went to very hard and it took too many attempts lol. I ended up gimping him with Chrom and I'm not sorry about it. He feels pretty weird to play as. The closest I can really think of is maybe Shulk? But with a couple ranged attacks.

He feels powerful, in terms of dealing damage at least. He hits hard. I dont know if that translates to him actually being good, but im really enjoying playing as him.

Shadow Flare is neat.
