I just read an article about this elsewhere. I'm not entirely sure it's specifically the word "disfigured" as opposed to projecting that disfigured people should be afraid or ashamed of the disfigurement.

Edit: whether I agree with the assessment or not is up for debate - I'm getting to a point where I don't have the energy to knee-jerk argue with every person who finds something that offends them in a game or movie. If it doesn't fundamentally change any other aspect of the media, I can live with it being changed.

I think it's silly to make into an issue. The alternative is to just make every character as bland as possible to avoid pissing some group off.
And what's a better role model?
Another perfect Barbie?
Or
A badass that overcomes her fears and gets revenge or learns to not care?

Also, humans feel embarrassed when that kind of thing happens. It's a realistic character bio.

I agree with your sentiment, but how is it that they are implying disfigurement is something to BE ashamed of? Just that the character was ashamed of it or maybe I'm reading it wrong?

I think my main contention here is the attitude of the twitter moron quoted. Like, I understand why someone would want to, and want others to, take a more positive outlook on facial scarring, or a number of related issues. And this does seem like a situation that could call for a tweet saying "hey, this is why I don't like this and here's another way to look at it."

But regardless of how you personally feel doesn't make the quotation in question wrong or bad within its own context, and to simply deem it "unacceptable" because you would have worded it differently is just the most obnoxious of behavior.

It's not unacceptable. It's just not 100% how you would have worded it because you have different priorities.
