Teratoma is Greek for monstrous tumor; these tumors were so named because they sometimes contain hair, teeth, bone, neurons, and even eyes.

Wait so these are kind of like malfunctioned fetuses?

Eh, not exactly. From what I gather, these are bizarre tumors that grow from stem cells, essentially. So sometimes they just randomly adopt the genetic pattern to form teeth, or hair, or eyes, or neurons. Etc.

Kind of a blueprint of life gone haywire. Pretty damn creepy.

Teratomas are most common in the tailbone, ovaries, and testicles, but can occur elsewhere in the body.

The latter. Though I do believe I read about one teratoma in particular that appeared to have a very rudimentary beating heart. Which... is really, really creepy.

Thats fucking horrifying. Imagine having a failed fetus inside your genitals. It occurring elsewhere is even more ominous. This is the biological nightmare thing I didnt need to learn this year after face mites

So... are, like, are teratomas, especially ones that have accumulated... such advanced characteristics... useful for anything?

I guess the obvious answer is stem cell research, I suppose.

There's a few really creepy medical stories of people having tumors in the head and doctors later finding they were teratomas or absorbed fetuses, nature is crazy.
