I remember Bruce Willis saying a long time ago that he wanted to do six then stop, but I was really hoping he'd given up on that idea after the last one. Really hope they don't end up going with the 'children of all the previous villains' plot that was floating around a few years ago too.

Also, I think Die Hard 4 is the second best one, so I'm happy they at least made the first four.

Hrm, it was more similar to 3, in so far as it featured a prominent sidekick and wasn't contained to a single location like the first two films.

With a Vengeance is anchored by a strong sidekick and a strong villain, much like the first film. It's the truest sequel of the bunch, in my estimation.

I agree with scarlet's ranking. 4 and 2 are very close but the order is pretty well cemented.

Yeah, I agree that 4 and 2 are extremely close, too. I think the big gaps are between 3 and 4 and 2 and 5 (even though 1 is probably my favorite pure action movie of all time).

4 suffers from being a film made in committee, but like 2, it has a rather unremarkable villain that I think they do a good job of hiding behind the action of Willis. There's definitely something irritating about Kevin Smith being stuck with pretty much the entirety of the film's exposition. It felt like they were waiting until the last moment to give a point to what was happening. Even still, I think it's an enjoyable action film if you ignore the Die Hard label.

A Good Day to Die Hard. It's awful, truly awful. I've seen the first four films multiple times each, but I've never once felt the need to watch 5 a second time after watching it in the cinema.
