Watch the Don Pauly skit, pretty good material.

Very nice.

I felt Bill's justified anger here. If I came back to my own mob to see that the ol' gang turned into a bunch of lame as fuck pussyfied members, I'd go back to prison. LMFAO!

Please let there be more Bill clips from the show.

People actually think Bill Burr was being edgy rather than speaking truth on white feminism is pretty funny. This is the type of stuff Black people have been talking about for a long time.

I guess it makes sense that it got the SNL audience all upset because it's mostly white women who watches SNL.

The white women woke bit was funny but he's been doing this joke for almost two years now, a lot of this monologue was recycled lol the gay pride joke seemed like it got cut off, that was a little awkward.

I dont think hes that funny at all lol he has some big swings on ocasin but most of it is just tame by shock value standards - more often than not I find myself just shaking my head saying yep, I agree.. yep, i agree

maybe its because in Boston were already used to saying go fahk yourself buddy on a casual level

No really though, there's a concentration of his fans that go into legit rage rants everytime they're reminded of the fact that he's happily married to a black woman.

The only thing I kind of dislike about Bill Burr's style is that a lot of the times he can come off as a " an old boomer yelling at the skies" rants that have no punchline, which often leads to people either agreeing or disagreeing. But his punchline with the gay and black month was good, even though I felt he kind of flubbed it there at the end. I'm also glad Bill Burr is not one of those "anti-maskers" that a lot of his fanbase are on youtube.

So this bit is basically white men are pretty much 100% responsible for the killing, enslaving, raping, and oppression of people of color, and theyve been doing all of these things to white women as well (minus the enslaving) for centuries, but Im going to focus on white women being complicit in all of this

Ive listened to/watched Bill Burr for years but the sexist undertones are a bit much. Even when hes bringing up a valid point like how white feminism glosses over the struggles of non-white women, he delivers it in a way that just seems to enable the worst sexist attitudes (as evidenced by all the comments Ive read from his fans in response to his material). People will say oh its just comedy but when comedy punches down it gives language to the oppressor. Just from personal experience as a brown person, theres not a lot you can do when someone shuts you down with an okay Apu or something. Its an instant dismissal of your voice and reduces you to a joke in seconds. Thats a lot of what Im seeing in the reactions to this bit.

This isn't punching down though. Punching down is attacking a disenfranchised group of people that have actually suffered.

Bill's rant was attacking a specific group/type of privileged white women who have co-opted movements created by and meant for people of color. It's more like a bop on the head and then him crouching down for a jumping uppercut.

The thing about Comedy is a lot of it is "I agree" or "I disagree".

A lot of Bill's fans like him because they agree with his jokes, even if Bill himself does not take it to the extremes they would. Bill Burr's humor effectively relies on you thinking he has a point, even if you don't completely agree. The irony of this is that everyone who makes fun of people who don't like Bill Burr's humor because they find it offensive like Bill Burr's' humor because they think it's' kind of true.

I personally think he's great and he's one of my bigger inspirations in comedy, but I understand why some people wouldn't like him. He has a very nuanced take on things that you sort of have to understand a lot about him to understand where he's coming from.

Also, as a side note. Bill Burr would be the first person to tell you that his humor isn't for everyone. That's quite literally the point. If it didn't offend some people, then he would be a milquetoast comedian or a positive comedian. He doesn't need people who don't love his humor to love his humor, he just needs enough people to love it for him to keep doing what he's doing.

I guess its cause I keep comparing everyone to Dangerfield, Rickles, Francisco, and McDonald.. never really been into the George Carlin style and CK just bores me. Burr is definitely a welcome addition its just that his highs are super high and his lows are super lows >_>

I've only seen the monologue, so I can't say anything about the show. But the crowd for SNL isn't going to react very well to Burr's humor. That's not his fault at all, it's their fault for not seeing what he was saying.

That's why I love when he's on Conan. The crowd gets it because they get him. Or they groan and he attacks them and then Conan/Andy cackle in delight and then the crowd comes around.

An SNL crowd won't do that.

He wasn't necessarily saying that they had it "better" than black people. He's more pointing out the ridiculousness of an enslaved-for-hundreds-of-years minority group can't even get a primo pride month.

Him saying that the gays haven't suffered enough or suffered at all would be like saying they should switch months or that gay pride shouldn't be a thing. But he didn't. He just wanted to lift up Black History Month/Pride month to be equals since, ya know, both groups have been fucked over more times than I can count by the U.S.

Its very likely he developed this bit from conservations with his wife - the wife that right wingers accuse of brainwashing him any time he calls out bigotry.

I'd have to double check, but it's slightly aggravating that the crowd was more at ease during that OVERLONG opening bit. I think the laughs and crowd pops were way bigger than any laugh from the monologue. Literally should have chopped that bit by two thirds. It was funny for a second, but wow.

I respect Bill for going hard though. It wasn't his hardest, but he had some nice swings.

Also this is to know one in particular, but if you bring the terms 'punching down' or 'punching up' into a comedy discussion, into a medium that's meant to provoke or challenge you, your opinion gets thrown out. So all of that noise on Twitter is just that.

I probably watch SNL once every couple years. The show is not as bad as some detractors say, but I will always find spontaneous comments / jokes on podcasts to be way funnier than anything coming out of SNL. The 20 year old college girls who like this show for the comedy can keep it. There are obviously talented people working on the show, but the dodo fans that they cater to are not arbiters of taste or comedy for me, I'm sorry. Not even close.

Bill was awesome on the sketches.
