Well?

For you lot who do not know what it is:

LaTeX A document preparation system
https://www.latex-project.org/

LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents. LaTeX is available as free software.

I must have these answers.

No. It's absolutely not expected for most disciplines in the sciences. I barely use it myself, only to typeset my CV. And that's just for fun.

And calling any person's major "a joke" compared to yours is silly from the outset.

( It's only undergrad. They're all jokes. Half joking)

I have never heard of it, I also keep forgetting what field STEM actually refers to in the US.

not necessarily "STEM" in general. from what I've seen, it's used a lot specifically in more advanced math classes, so I'd maybe expect a mathematician to know it, or some alternative, but that's it.

Never heard of it and I was taking classes in networking for a while. Based on that description I don't know why computer or engineering majors would know it.

to anyone wondering, it's basically what you use to typeset mathematical documents. if you've taken a math test with fancy math questions on it, it's very likely the test was typeset with latex (pronounced "lay-tech").

in higher level math courses, and math related computer science courses, you have to submit your assignments as a PDF that was generated from latex. (possible that there are other options as well). I've had to use it in at least a cryptography course and a numerical computation course.

it's also available to use to write math symbols on math-related stackexchange sites.

it's pretty much math-specific; I wouldn't expect anyone other than mathematicians (and people from math-related fields) to use it.
