White people always assume it's the first time the cops went up to someone black and asked for ID and a name when they did nothing wrong. Because they've never been harassed by a cop and can't comprehend that others don't get the same treat.

"Just give them your ID and Name every week like a good little bitch. Just don't let it get to you that the place you grew up doesn't treat you like the neighbor you are and instead treats you like a suspicious character your whole life."

Now watch the same guy who said that throw a huge fit anytime he's not givin the best service wherever he goes because he grew accustom to it.

I think the problem is that I grew accustom to Hawaii. Here we don't have shit like that. People are nice. Cops are respectful, people respect cops. Our BLM protests were organized, and people didn't wreck shit or block roads. I've only been in a handful of encounters with the police before my current job, and they have all been pleasant. Granted there was that one time when it was a pretty big pain because I had to wait around for like 2 hours, but that's because I saw a crazy hobo attack and stab a cop with a screwdriver so I needed to talk to the detective and fill out a report.

I covered that in my first post. No need to go over it again. You see it as a one time thing. Unless you think people should go through security checks weekly/monthly just for being a certain color in a neighborhood they look too "suspicious" for. There was a dude who got stopped and harassed by cops literally every day for years.

There's a reason I don't have to state his ethnicity. World context fills in that blank immediately when you read that.

The cops are my friends though :((

I visit court houses often so I see a lot of cops, especially at District Court. They're very nice :3

Also they've come over to kick out some crazy druggies who came into the building for whatever reason multiple times. Although I don't know if they're technically cops. We just call our Investigations department and they send people over who I assume have some legal authority.
Then you give them your ID.

Don't blame others for not doing it when
  1. They legally aren't obliged to
  2. It could get them killed

I'm not disagreeing. I gave the cops my ID when they asked when I was a witness to the stabbing, and I'm not saying that people have to give their ID when it's not a requirement. All I'm saying is that chances are, it'll make things go a lot more smoothly.

There is a difference in not being interviewed by a detective without a lawyer and not complying when you're stopped on the side of the road because you match the description of a suspect.

Of course you can be an ass and not give them your name. They can legally detain you also. They are gonna assume you have warrants or you are up to no good. Also if you kick a cop in the face, you're probably going to get in trouble.

So, a couple or three things.

The number one thing an innocent person should think when stopped by the police is...what do I need to do to get home safe?

Second: If the police stop and detain you they are able to order you to produce ID. It's just the law. See rule one. Afterwards you can get badge numbers and file a complaint but at that moment you are required to comply.

Third: don't talk to cops. Everything you say is admissible. If they ask you question you do NOT have to answer. You have to provide ID if the police have probable cause to suspect you have violated a law. But that is it. You don't have to tell them where you work or what you are doing.

Fourth: if you don't answer questions it may make things more difficult and draw things out. But that's ok, you are within your rights not to answer questions. If you think the police are harassing you say so, but continue to obey commands. If they tell you to get out of the car, get out. If they want to search you, let them (see Terry frisk). Remember that these guys can arrest or hurt you (see rule 1).

Fifth: cops are human and can react poorly. It's not fair but that is how it is. Your main goal is to get home. Do what you need to do to get home. If you are in a state that allows you to record the police do that. You can weigh filing a complaint at home, safe.

They most certainly would be. But you ever hear the saying "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should"? There are ways to avoid conflict, and one of them is by not making things unnecessarily difficult for people.
And this is literally the problem with the police. Abuse of power.

People keep making excuses for cops abusing their power with, "you should just listen to the thugs in blue" and not looking to actually fix the problem.

Cops are becoming untrusted because the bad cops run the show. They're act like thugs. Especially the "suspect fit the description" cops who harass innocent people to then find a reason to arrest them on something else. See Breanna Taylor death and their hilarious charge on the boyfriend.
Or trigger happy cops who purposely can't desolate a situation without gunning people down. Even complying to their simon says games can get you shot.
And let's not forget when the thugs in blue fabricate evidence, lie about what happened, or straight dont do their job because "policy" doesn't really require to have a regard for life. Unions will protect them! Not to mention good cops go punished for when they try to do the right thing.
