Zoomers are under the pressure of both having the internet to challenge their ego, but the purity culture their parents partake in adding unreasonable expectations.

Zoomers have among the highest rates of childhood anxiety on record (although tracking anxiety is a relatively new phenomenon so it could be biased) and it's largely due to the pressure to be perfect.

The thing I always find funny when all this crap comes up is the fact that, for all the shit that the Millennials have decided to fling at the Boomers, they're basically the exact same people in pretty much every meaningful way.

Everyone always seems to forget that the Boomers were the blatant "We're going to change the world for the better with the power of positivity, sex, drugs, and rock & roll!" generation. They were firmly convinced that all the old white men who came before them screwed up the world, and that they were the only ones "woke" enough to fix things. Then they grew up.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that 30-40 years from now, another generation of kids will be complaining about how terrible the Millennials were, and how they selfishly fucked everything up for everyone after them. It's pretty much inevitable, considering how closely they're following the old path.

At least Gen X noped the fuck out early, and just wallows in its own cynicism. You can't really shit on someone for betraying their ideals when they never had ideals in the first place!

1965-1980 is the majority accepted years of the GenX cohort. This is what the US Census Bureau uses when they provide statistics regarding the generational cohorts. I believe Strauss and Howe, the leading theorists on American generations, also list this span as the prime GenX birth years.

I just slipped in to GenX being born at the tail end of the 1970s. :)

I'm Gen X and I didn't really give up till my late 40's, basically just a few years ago (had alot of crap in my life that kinda pushed me to that though), but honestly it's crap in the last 20 years that is really ruining everything. ALL adults that have been around for the last 20 years are really to blame, although as usually the rich and powerful, well, have most of the power so are mostly to blame.

We gave up on space, screwed the environment, corrupted (more) our political system (in the US), and just didn't improve our infrastructure etc at all. It's been a seriously horrid 20 year period in my opinion.

And all of that falls on boomers, Gen X and Millenials. You can argue the youngest millenials did't really have much power etc, but the youngest adults usually have the most energy and can be the strongest proponent for change (positive or negative).

We are all at fault to some degree, and this whole generation thing is freaking dumb. Stop pointing fingers and start actively working to fix things, it's not too late (it's never really too late anymore with technology), but it requires a motivated population that prioritizes positive changes even if they are not the most comfortable, or easiest ones.

All Gen X did was make some music, lose a bunch of money in the dot com bubble and suicide in their 40s.
