She mentioned that in her recent vlog-style video about her book - sounds more like a publisher mandate than something she had a hand in. I'm pretty sure she's not happy with it either, and I think her stance on it is "if you think you know where this is going, you're probably wrong".

They said it felt like Lindsay didn't really have any interest in aliens, and just pushed something out to be able to call herself a big boy writer who got published by a real publisher.

That's a nonsense description. It's not uncommon that you need to appease the publisher before you get freedom to do your thing.

My opinion is that Spoony, in his prime, was the best of them.

Unfortunately he crashed and burned, and is now a husk of a human being.

His hammy acting style encapsulated in 1 24 second video. He should of left when the going was good, when the angry reviewing style was still in and not overdone.

I actually got into Todd and Lindsay years after Channel Awesome. Always thought the whole TGWTG/Channel Awesome thing was overblown and cringe, especially since TV Tropes - one of my main haunts as a teenager - fucking slurped TGWTG's nuts for yeeeeeeears. Also, my first exposure to a "good" TGWTG thing were the Spoony FF8 videos, and I honestly thought he was an unfunny dickhead.

Todd's videos are consistently entertaining and enlightening, and I get a lot out of Lindsay's critical analysis videos. From the RENT review's detailed breakdown of the AIDS crisis, to multiple videos breaking down different philosophical viewpoints and critical frameworks and applying them to media - Lindsay Ellis's videos are always really interesting.

Some of the Channel Awesome people I could never get into just because I found their voices so annoying, like Lupa, Phelous, and Linkara. I also couldn't stand Linkara's cringy power fantasy storylines that he loved to do so much.

I just wanna know how Guru Larry moves through different circles with nobody calling him on it.

I see comments from him on videos from SJW and Anti-SJW content creators, and both sides are always glad to see him.

I liked Lindsay's Nostalgia Chick stuff, but for some reason never checked her later stuff out.

As for TGWTG/CA, I pretty much just watched the bigger guys. NC, Lindsay, Spoony, and Brad Jones. I watched Linkara for a bit, but he got old and annoying fast. The other guys never really did anything for me. The whole thing started to become lame though. I never could get into those movies they did and the constant crossovers, there was too much referential humor, and the skits got too silly and too self indulgent.

Here's the thing though regarding the controversy, a lot of the stuff talked about was already known for a long time and some of the same people who complained about all the mistreatment were the same ones who denied it when it first came out and acted like everything was great behind the scenes and they were all one big happy family. The site was very cult like. The fans especially.
