I took...(blank) as the elective

according to statistics, not surprising, most boys took wood shop or metal shop as their elective while girls chose home economics aka cooking...

but you had to choose one over the other as the elective..so which did you choose of these 3?

I never had any of those options, sadly. I think home ec would have been the best for me, but I don't know for sure what Past Me would have picked.

I took Woodshop in Grade 9 and Home Ec in Grade 10. My school didn't offer Metalshop. I can acknowledge that I got very little from either of them, aside from seeming slightly more competent when someone asks me if I know how to use power tools.

This was more I didn't know what to take in my group of "other classes to take" so I basically tried to take everything.

home ec (baking, sewing) and a simple shop (typesetting, co2 car, model rocket) class were mandatory, but in middle school. a more advanced wood shop was a HS elective, but I didn't take it. I did take two drafting classes, though.

Funny story. I was removed from Wood Shop for almost taking arm chop and then from Home Economics for learning that I really like getting too close to fire.

I forget where I was put after. Drama?

I took none of them in high school. When I was in 7th grade (middle school), we had one class period that was home ec for 1/3 of the year, shop class for another 1/3 of the year, and art class for the final 1/3 of the year.

Home ec was divided into 3 parts (cooking, sewing, and some hey, youre going through puberty bullshit) and shop was divided into 3 parts as well (wood, metals, drafting).

So thats where I got my home ec and shop class.

Home ec and wood shop.

Sadly home ec was all sewing and no cooking. Wood shop was fun. I still have a little tic-tac-toe board I made in that class. It's a block of wood with two holes drilled in the top and a little twisty closure so you can put marbles inside to play with on the front. Pretty clever.

We had more general shop classes in middle school, but I went on to take a woodworking/cabinet making class in high school. I still have the cabinet/end table I made in that class in my house.

Didnt take any home economics but they were available.

I also took the shop version of the required economics course which had a entrepreneurial focus where we made stuff to sell in the student shop. I think we got like $25 each student or so at the end of the semester as our share of the profits.

I took home ec one semester and metal shop the other semester, if Im recalling correctly

made an apron in home ec, and a grappling hook in metal shop...also disassembled/reassembled a lawnmower motor, and it started on the first try after reassembly

I also got my Nike windbreaker sleeve caught in the lathe one day and got my hand banged up for it

Unfortunately, I didn't do either in highschool. Instead my counselor decided for me to do an elective called "drawing" and we sure as fuck didn't draw at all. I was overwhelmingly disappointed

In middle school I enrolled in wood working but I was getting headaches in the shop so after a couple of classes I switched to Introduction to Technology. The teacher's son had committed suicide so we basically had a permanent substitute teacher for the whole semester and it was the easiest class you could possibly imagine since it revolved around screwing around on Photoshop and playing with robotics and stuff, and half the class we just talked about ska music and shit >_>.

In high school I did take Print (Print Shop?) as a class, where you learned to set type and develop film. THAT teacher was retiring that year so he didn't give a shit at all, got an A just for organizing the type set at the end of the semester.

We took home ec (under different names) in middle and high school. I think wood shop was still offered during my freshman year, but only for the upperclassmen. To my knowledge it isn't available at the school anymore. I've never heard of metal shop in grade school.
