don't listen to them, gram

jake is the worst thing to ever come out of the resident evil series and sherry is dope

That's not at all mutually exclusive to what I said.

To be a bit more specific, Jake has an actual melee moveset tied to a "fist" weapon and you absolutely missed out by not experiencing that at all.

On the bright side none of the other campaigns have such a big mechanical gap between their characters... but I'd still say you should play as each campaign's namesake since the story is absolutely constructed in such a way that the main character is almost always doing the more interesting thing.

Alright, will do.

I'm going to start the next campaign tonight. Last chance for any compelling Leon vs Chris arguments regarding spoilers, I guess, but the majority seem to favor Leon.

Well Sherry also had an electric baton thing, though I rarely used it.

Sherry's baton is functionally just a fancy knife. Jake can literally flash kick people's heads off and Wesker-dodge bullets lol

i've played through re6 a couple times, and i honestly have a hard time remembering what happens. Its just not that memorable to me, despite some pretty memorable moments.

or maybe its because i played it 1000x less than re5

This is exactly how I feel about RE5. I couldn't tell you one single thing that happened in that game that didn't involve Wesker.

yeah i totally understand that. I think re5 has the advantage of only a single story so things don't get as muddled though

The only thing I really remember about 6 is the goddamn T-Rex that comes out of nowhere.

5, especially Gold edition 5, is the superior product.

Chapter 3 was totally pointless to the story, but okay. At least Helena stopped stringing me along without telling me what was happening.

This was much better than Jake's campaign, though I wouldn't say it's good. I played as Leon, but it always felt like Helena was doing something, as opposed to Sherry.

The concept of a t-rex was dumb, full stop.

Just give me a Dino Crisis reboot, no one wanted this.

I actually don't know what the t-rex is.

oh that thing? I guess even the wiki is calling it something that resembles a dinosaur but I never made that connection. it's just bipedal and kinda hunched. Though I guess Metal Gear Rex. But if your allusion to a dinosaur is that indirect that doesn't sound fair to bring up Dino Crisis. I don't think they're going to have giant eyeballs for a head

Ada 5 beated

19 hours total I devoted to this game. Pretty awful, deserves the rep.

I'm going to say Leon > Jake > Ada > Chris, but with the caveat that Leon's campaign is way longer than it needs to be.

Also, the story to this game is completely insane if you actually type it out. It's so, so far removed from a real horror concept that it's kind of funny.

I stand by doing Leon 1-3 before the rest because otherwise you effectively lose all tension from that segment. I think thats probably the best part of the game as well, which says little but when I played through that, I was like hmm, this might be alright and then I was like oh.

I don't know. The only real problem with Leon 4-5 before Chris is that it reveals that Ada is still alive.

The best thing you can say about this game is that Capcom eventually learned their lesson from it.

They wildly misinterpreted what people liked about RE4, so they dialed some of those aspects up in 5. Rather than actually take the pulse of what worked and what didn't in 5, they just saw their successful sales numbers and thought they could just make a bigger and bigger spectacle out of the series and their sales numbers would just keep proportionately skyrocketing. RE7 is by no means a perfect game, but it's such a huge course correction that I didn't think would have ever happened at the time, and certainly not after Umbrella Corps.

I mean, she gave Wesker the plagas, which he used to kill thousands of African people, so she's at least partly responsible for all of that.

RE4 basically invented the over the shoulder Third Person Shooter genre, or at least set the standard for the boom that would follow with Gears of War (and then Uncharted and shit like that).

That game is influential precisely for the non-horror parts. It's really not a particularly scary game nor does it push the survival-horror genre in any way besides blending it with action games instead (making the "horror" more of a setting genre than a gameplay genre).

Suffice to say I'm not surprised at Capcom's decision to focus on what separated RE4 from its predecessors than what they had in common. If RE5 and 6 had been single player games I bet they would have been a lot more popular among the hardcore single player crowd.

Even more specifically, it really seems like they thought the island in its entirety was what everyone liked best about RE4, when it was really only specific parts of it that stood out (like Krauser and Regenerators).

I haven't actually played it (or anything) with VR, but it's not like it's Half-Life: Alyx where you're actually doing anything special with the VR set that you couldn't be doing with a controller or mouse & keyboard.

RE7 great game!

The VR is very good, it was easily the best "full" VR game until Astro Bot. But the non-VR version is clearly supposed to be the primary version of the game, as IIRC the menus and opening cutscene were not tuned for VR.

The advantage of the game aiming for PSVR that you feel in all versions of the game though, is that it's really well optimised.
