The best thing you can say about this game is that Capcom eventually learned their lesson from it. They wildly misinterpreted what people liked about RE4, so they dialed some of those aspects up in 5. Rather than actually take the pulse of what worked and what didn't in 5, they just saw their successful sales numbers and thought they could just make a bigger and bigger spectacle out of the series and their sales numbers would just keep proportionately skyrocketing. RE7 is by no means a perfect game, but it's such a huge course correction that I didn't think would have ever happened at the time, and certainly not after Umbrella Corps.
