what is going on?

Naya Rivera went missing at a lake in California. Within the past few hours. Social is upset they suspended the search until morning already since they feel the first few hours someone goes missing is the most important.

I only read about it a minute ago, and apparently the authorities will continue the search at first light. I dont know if thats standard for them, but it seems reasonable. Pretty sure you could be endangering the responders by having them operate in the dark.

It's 100% standard operating procedure, simply for the safety of everyone else involved. Like shit a 9-year old KID went missing in a river in my city a couple days ago and they still called off the search at night time.

I think the only real time they'll keep going at night is if they're looking for a criminal.

It really sucks to say this, but based on the tweets provided it seems like the users are assuming shes still alive. That lake has had a lot of drownings over the years. Its heartbreaking for her fans and most of all her son who was on the boat, but Naya had likely been dead for hours before the search even started.

I really hope that she turns up fine, but the authorities likely called off the search because they knew they were looking for a body.

Unless the US operates differently then it should be the local cops, who would have search and rescue teams for missing persons.

It's just people talking out of their ass. I saw a tweet from some guy that was like "I've been involved in search operations before and this didn't happen" like dude you've never been involved in an *official* search and rescue operation before so shut the fuck up.

It sucks but it doesn't sound like they did anything wrong, people are just angry with cops at the moment. Reportedly visibility was already a problem, and then late at night it probably became more so. She jumped into the water without a vest and never popped back up again, sadly that doesn't sound like it being possible she survived.

Problem is they use Twitter to make these "Twitter articles", where they take like 10 random nobodies, and use their tweets to make it seem like a majority of the US thinks that way about a certain current event. Just browse Yahoo, you will see it every day. It's tiresome.

Also, just imagine how much Twitter has cancelled, taken down, destroyed...etc.

I don't even know why Natalee Holloway is relevant to this. Yeah, the case is still open because they've never found her body or her killer, but no one that isn't being paid by her family is actively doing anything.

The media got absolutely raked for how it was handled as well.
