Do you agree with Trump that these confederate soldiers should be "praised"?

Trump said in an interview with his favourite network, Fox News that black people who want statues of slave owners and Confederate figures removed should LEARN FROM THE HISTORY or risk going RIGHT BACK TO IT sometime as he made the suggestion that the era of "slavery" could return if they keep removing history from their "heritage"

Calls to remove statues of racists have been mounting since the death of George Floyd as protesters have defaced or brought them down themselves

But Trump is urging them to "think again" particularly black americans because he said "we should learn from history" and said "My message is that we have a great country, we have the greatest country on earth. We have a heritage, we have a history and we should learn from the history, and if you don't understand your history, you will go back to it again. You will go right back to it. You have to learn. Think of it, you take away that whole era and you're going to go back to it sometime. People won't know about it. They're going to forget about it, it's okay. You have to understand history, and our culture and so many other aspects. But you cant take down George Washington. Here is the other problem that i have, a lot of these people don't even know what they are taking down. I see what's happening on tv and they are ripping down things they have no idea what they are ripping down, but they started off with the Confederates and now go to Ulysses Grant so what's all that about? Grant"

Grant beat the confederates and ended the Civil War before becoming President but also married into a famliy that owned SLAVES!

Trump has said protecting statues is now his high priority in policy and made an executive order aimed at protecting monuments and threatens long prison sentences for lawless acts against their country and said "Now they're looking at Jesus Christ, not going to happen. not going to happen while i'm here"

On saturday he tweeted 15 "wanted" posters of protesters who tried to topple Andrew Jackson, the populist who admirers say reformed Washington DC and is a hero of Trump..despite him being a slave owner who championed "Trail of Tears" forcing native americans west of Mississippi.

This also comes just as Trump tweeted and deleted a Villages Video of his geriatric trailer trash supporters fighting against protesters as one yells out "White Power" causing much outrage and the president claims he didn't hear it despite it being in teh first 20 seconds

Trump said he was open go erecting new statues to "great people" and says you shouldn't take away their heritage and history and beauty of these famous confederate men and said they were american heroes who deserve to be praised..

Do you agree with Trump that these confederate soldiers should be "praised"?

By erasing history you wouldnt mean the confederate statues that were built in the 1920s, 55+ years after the end of the civil war, during the height of the KKK popularity. Those statues are now being torn down.

I know thats not the history you believe is getting erased, right?

Didn't they succeed from the US?
How would they be American heroes?

Like I'm aware there's more to even just North America than the US, but I doubt he's thinking in those terms.

What history is being erased? What do these statues tell that can't be found on even just the Wikipedia page for the Civil War, let alone any quarter-assed effort at genuine education?

History books and museums tell history.

Statues honor history.

Removing statues does not make us forget about slavery, it just removes the thing that glorifies it.

Heck, if you really want to educate people about slavery with a statue, put up a statue that depicts it in place of the ones that just depict some guy with no context. As an added bonus, that's likely to be a lot more artistically interesting than another simple human statue, as well as being a nice way of getting around the issue that humans are humans and every historical figure has done some bad things at some point in their life that shouldn't be glorified.

I see in tearing down the Ulysses grant statue he now admits the reason why they were tearing down the confederate ones.

This is how you do politics successfully in America. Someone has to take it 5 steps too far so the "meet in the middle" position is where it should have been all along.

Please explain how the act of removing statues is erasing history. Im sure weve all forgotten about Hitler because there are no statues of him to remind us right?

A) 1865, the year of his death?
B) 1875, ten years after this death?
C) 1922, the same year those other statues were going up?

Survey says.... 1922! You know, 55+ years after the war. Oh shit, guess that means we gotta tear it down now, right? Because it wasn't built within the statute of limitations?

Just to be clear having statues up celebrating men who are notable only for evil ideas is what they want you to learn. They want people to know their place and they are afraid of people being able to finally move past it. It's why the statues were put up in the first place, to reinforce segregation.
