Speaking of momentum stocks, I bought some NFLX in I think 2009 or so but sold it for a 20% or so profit. I checked NFLX this morning. It's up 72x since then. I don't remember how much I had invested but I think it was 1 or 2 thousand dollars or so. $1,000 would be worth $72,000 now. $2,000 would be worth $144,000. I wish I had just forgotten I bought that stock.
Don't worry about this now
Worry about not knowing which stock will be the next NFLX in 10 years from now

We can all cry about not investing our life in Amazon and turning into billionares, but instead we should seek the next Amazon!

Any ideas? people have high hopes for NIO for example, calling it the next Tesla
NKLA is promising too from what I heard

Well, finding these companies is not that hard. What's hard is holding it for years and not cashing out for a small profit or even pretty big profit. I think realistically, if I didn't sell at +20% I surely would have sold at +50% or +100% or +300%. Holding for +72,000% is unlikely unless I actually forgot I owned the stock. I think this is the source of Warren Buffett's long term success - he really does hold for decades.

FYI the reason WYNN has not participated in the rally since Friday is probably the new coronavirus outbreak in Beijing. They do the majority of their business in Macau so any new closure there or restriction of travel in China would be damaging.

It's odd how many euphoria stocks are down today with the market up a lot:

MFA -4%
CHK -18%
NKLA -7%
GNUS -12%
XSPA -3%
HPR -2%
TSLA -1% (No one here has been talking about it and it has a market cap bigger than the others on this list combined, but this is a company that has never ever turned an annual profit. It just loses money year after year while the stock soars.)

There are a bunch of other euphoria stocks that are up, but just slightly, which is also weird:

LK +0%
TLRD +1%
HTZ +3%

And TVIX which usually falls hard on a green day like this is only down 1%. With this list you would think the market was narrowly down, not up 500 points.

I don't think Elon has any real desire to turn a profit. I'm not sure it would help the stock price either - then people might starting evaluating Tesla in terms of earnings per share or price/earnings ratio, which would show it's ludicrously overpriced. As long as those numbers are negative, the market can ignore them and evaluate Tesla based on dreams and momentum.

What do you mean Tesla not showing profit?
Isn't "first time profit" was the reason for the stock to surge from 250 to 950 in the first place..?

Redsox's point was it never had an annual profit. But looking at their 10Q, last quarter had a profit.

I know we are often taught not to invest based on historical patterns, but check out the three month chart for LVS. Technical analysis suggests that it will rise tomorrow after open. If you can hold it for a week, it should be pretty solid for a gain.

One thing to look out for in the coming future. We are a bit less than a month and a half from the extra unemployment benefit wearing out.

We know people don't save money even when they know this money is going to be running out.

All this spending people are doing right now could come to a screeching halt.

In LK news, remember the shares Goldman Sachs seized from the chairman as collateral for his margin loan? They said they sold all of it, and received an average price of $2.75 per share. They got back $200 million out of the $500 million they were owed, so unless they can find some other assets of the chairman to seize, they took a loss of $300 million on the margin loan. I think everyone here who traded LK sold at a higher price than $2.75 or are still holding, so we all did better than Goldman Sachs on this one.

Also, bravo to Hertz - it's still fighting and is back over $2 today. If they can sell those 246 million shares at an average price of $2, they can raise nearly $500 million. I wonder if that's enough to escape bankruptcy. If it is, the shares are very cheap at $2. Wish we had some numbers about how many new shares they've sold already.

HTZ now halted for "news pending." Yeah, this seems to be a major risk of buying shares in a company like this. There is some chance it will get halted and you won't be able to sell for a while at any price. While LK ultimately worked out for me, I was forced to hold it for a month and a half while it was halted and that was awful

IMO, these unannounced halts are very unfair if they are going to last longer than a few minutes. I think we might actually get news from HTZ a lot faster than LK as they are an American company with experienced lawyers and management, but still, no need for the halt.
