Yeah Moonroof, I was talking about doing a stop buy, not a buy limit order and a stop limit. I do those all the time! I'll rewatch the Ameritrade education videos on YouTube again when I got home to get a better grip :D

I was half joking but I kinda illustrated how to use a stop buy I think.

I'm pretty sure you try to do it when a stock is falling to catch the bounce since the buy will only trigger if the stock is going up into that range, so if you put it sufficiently above the current price when a stock is falling it'll only do the buy when momentum has reversed

But maybe I'm wrong let me know if there's some secret tech I'm not grasping.

Just keep in mind stop orders trigger a market order while a limit order will set a price for all shares.

So you may have a stop at x which triggers a market order of x+some number.

So another question that I really should already know - can you set a stop limit sell order for a price above where your stock is? And would it kick in right away or later?

I was thinking this because, let's say I'm getting schlammered tonight to forget today's course of events because I am, and I may not even have the courage to check the markets tomorrow. Can I put a sell limit order at say, 7 in the hopes that there's another insane rally, with a stop market of 6.50, which would only kick in if 7 isn't reached and it dips back below 6.50? Does that work?

E: Oh my orders all expired so I'd have to wake up to put these in anyway.

Im only in AAL and its down 6% from what I bought it at. Gonna be holding onto that one for awhile.

Anything airline feels like a good long term hold. Sure, there's signs of another covid spike, but eventually things will settle into a state where air travel will be back.

You know what really sucks? Tomorrow is my one day off work this week and I won't even get to play the markets because of my AVCT mishap today :( But again, this is probably good for me. The longer I don't have the ability to, more I can learn and develop a real strategy. Because right now I'm just dipping my toes in every strategy possible... And then breaking my strategy because AVCT was supposed to be my long stock!

Futures pointing red overall so far. Man I picked a bad day to get into AAL but it couldve been worse I suppose. Ill be interested to see how TLRD does.

Commiserations Moonroof. I picked a bad day yesterday to buy DAL. Then I added more shares today when it dropped again. It did okay during the day, was briefly looking strong, but plunged the last hour or so and was deep in the red after hours. I am kicking myself for selling at $25 a week and a half ago. Selling at $25 and buying my shares back at $33......so bad when I was intending to hold it until $50+ from the start.

Our silver lining is that the airlines will go back up by the end of the year the latest. Even with a second wave, theyre going to be fine. Just sucks that we might have to hold for awhile.

Selling airlines without a real good reason is dumb. They will be back and I think this time they arent allowed to fail.

I dont mean to be making any of it personal. Its just irritating when I make a community series of topics, someone who is a big contributor starts acting a bit too entitled and sensitive, continually PMs me asking for loan money for his business, and then ignores me because I turned him down but places the blame on me for not listening to his advice and joking too much about it when the only person who missed out was me.

Then this topic gets made. Its all silly.

I am guessing this consists of a big gain in TLRD and red all over the place everywhere else.

I only have noteworthy money in stocks atm because I simplified after I met some goals.

A lot of my money is in AAL which is bleeding right now but my average share is STILL at 14.33 eve after buying heavily above the line this week as a 'year long stable stock' to house my 'future house' funds.

Then there is HPR which has bled a lot but also I am down to 6000 shares so whew and yeah TLRD was helping but now that's turning red so probably a bad day ahead but nothing really to sell

Im thinking tomorrow will be another red day, barring what news comes out today. I dont think were in a second wave of the virus, its just a continuation of the first. A second wave wouldnt happen until late fall.

By the way Moonroof, I took you off ignore since Plum got me curious and a couple of things

1) I talk about my losses all the time, but I live in a 'well no need to dwell on those' world so you may not remember while my wins have been more frequent and much bigger in the current bull market as red sox said. Note how I came in and said today was going to be a very bad day for me and not "hay guys I sold all my shares LOOK AT ME I AM CHRIS I AM PSYCHIC"

2) Of course I want money as a business owner, that's what we do! I've asked a lot of people for money because I want to finance super big projects that my business can't yet like buying vintage Pokemon sets, having them graded, and flipping those PSA slabs for a pretty penny. Maybe it is my business side but I think my offers of compensation are pretty competitive for any arrangement I have offered anyone. If I thought they would have me I'd pitch on Shark Tank :P

If someone is annoying me I will ignore them because I don't want to be annoyed. Simple stuff. Ask for my advice, which involves me taking 15-30 minutes of my precious time to double check since I know you are very risk adverse and I wish to respect your aversion level, and then don't follow it? No problem, I just will never use my time on you again.

That's just how it be.

Im also wondering the effect a continued or second wave would have. It seems that politicians arent going to force quarantines again or close down businesses. For that reason Im thinking particularly the travel and leisure stocks will suffer a sharp but swift decline, and getting in on them sooner than later will pay off very well.

With that being said, I still dont feel too good going in on anything until Friday afternoon the absolute earliest. But who knows, the market could rebound overnight for god knows what reason.

I could see a big bounce on Friday followed by a red week next week. Or just a big bounce and a run upwards to the moon.

I hope youre right. Massive red days like today set stocks back an entire week sometimes. I still have PTSD from when I chose the WORST day to buy into the banks and resort stocks. It took literally a month just to make 1%. That really messed up my psyche.

Their prices are certainly tempting but Im getting a feeling that theyre going to decline throughout the day perhaps tomorrow as well. I got AAL at $18.06 which is biting me hard.

I didnt know you were going out of your way and expending additional energy. I thought you were always into stocks and were merely sharing with the board what your research found. I wouldnt ask you to spend your personal time on finding me stocks, I didnt know thats how it was coming off.

I don't know if this comes off but plum can speak for the fact I tend to be diligent and try to do good by people. I appreciated the topics so I was willing to go out of my way!
