Suikoden defeated Dead or Alive 19-7
Crash Bandicoot defeated X-Men vs Street Fighter 17-10
Street Fighter Alpha 2 defeated Blood Omen 16-11
Lufia II defeated Carmen Sandiego 14-12

The only game that looked dominant here was Suikoden, disposing of DOA quickly. Crash looked decent at best failing to double a well-respected 4 seed, Street Fighter Alpha 2 eventually puts down Legacy of Kain in the end, and holy hell @ the 2/15 match. Carmen Sandiego led on two different occasions against one of the Super Nintendo's more respected RPGs. Lufia needed a string of votes in the end to avoid becoming the 2nd #2 seed in tournament history to be upset in round 1.

What's crazy is that there's a second Carmen Sandiego game as a #15 seed later on.

Other things of note...

With its victory, SF Alpha 2 matches the run by SF Alpha 3, which made it to round 2 of the 98 tournament.

With its loss, Blood Omen finishes off the runs by Legacy of Kain in all the contests, as the series goes 2-3 overall; Soul Reaver was responsible for both wins.

Suikoden now moves up to 5-5 overall. The series' best run was II in the 99 tournament.

Did that many people really play NASCAR 2? Loved messing around with that as a kid. I remember there was a glitch where if you drove backwards and hit another car while they were against the wall, they would accelerated backwards with no upper bound until they just vanished. Good times.

Mostly watching a friend play, cause I didn't have a PC until late 97. And it's going up against the only Persona game I'd vote against.

Papyrus made some bangin' racing games back in the day. The Indycar games were my favorites.

Fun fact, iRacing is basically a heavily modded NASCAR Racing 2003 Season.

I haven't played Radical Dreamers but I watched a bit of it and it's interesting as hell that they made basically a visual novel for the SNES as a sort of proto-Chrono Cross? Super interesting.

Noted, and I've enjoyed your posts on these so far Para. I'll even add some insight of my own!

DKC3 sometimes gets flak for having a nearly similar plot to the 2nd game and for the existence of Kiddy Kong, but I enjoyed it. The overworld was different and fresh as well, though 2 will always be the best in the series. Sadly I can't vouch for Earthsiege 2, though it looks like something I'd enjoy for a bit.

When Sega went third party for everyone, I was (and still am) surprised that we never saw a 3D Vectorman. I know they wanted to do so for Saturn and PS2, but it never became a reality.

Persona 1 is a chore to play through. How we eventually got 3 through 5 all in top notch quality, I'll never know.

I'll always enjoy and respect the first Quake (I even grew up on the vastly inferior N64 version), but Deception was something else. When I learned there was a strategy RPG dedicated to setting up traps in a medieval/dark setting, I was sold. Deception III a few years later was an absolutely underrated gem.

I didn't have much to say about the others. I like to watch like 5-10 minutes of gameplay footage of each game to kinda get a feel of if I'd like to play it or not and I vote based on that, since I've played or am familiar with a fair number of games in the bracket already anyway, but today was kinda a weird one.

DKC3 is a game I really like - I do think it's the worst of the trilogy but it's still an extremely solid platformer in many respects. I've never heard of Earthsiege 2, doesn't look like my thing, but I appreciate it for being a weird obscure game someone likes!

I've never seen the first Persona game and it's... an interesting looking one. Dunno if I would enjoy it that much nowadays but it definitely looks interesting from a 'weird game they made in 1996 that would go on to be something bigger' kind of perspective. NASCAR racing was pretty much what it looks like, not really into it.

Deception looks weird as fuck and I can kind of appreciate that, but I was never into a lot of these really weird prototype 3D games of the mid-90's and the dark setting just isn't my jam. Quake doesn't count as a "weird prototype 3D" to me though - definitely a classic and arguably one of the most influential games of all time, still holds up I think.
